Antoinette L. (Brienza) Sorrentino

Family & friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, August 10th, 2014 from 4 – 8 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107), Revere, for Antoinette L. (Brienza) Sorrentino, who passed following a brief illness on Saturday, August 2nd at her Revere residence, at 90 years.  Her funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Monday, August 11th at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in the Immaculate Conception Church (corner of Beach St. & Winthrop Ave.), Revere, at 10:30 a.m.  Born & raised in New Bedford, she attended school there & was an alumna of New Bedford High School, Class of 1942, & also graduated from Campbell Secretarial Junior College in 1944.  She was also an alumna of Holy Name Grammar School of New Bedford, Class of 1938.  “Ann,” as she was affectionately known, worked as a Principal Clerk for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, within the Division of Personnel & Administrative Services in Boston, & retired in the mid-1980’s.  She had over 15 years of service.  Ann was a devotee of Immaculate Conception Parish for over 50 years.  She was a staunch Catholic, & enjoyed her faith & liturgy immensely.  She was a member of the Massachusetts State Municipal Retired Employees Association.  After her marriage to Nunzio “Sonny” Sorrentino in 1946, they moved to the Bronx, New York, for 14 years.  In 1960, she moved to Revere & raised her 3 children.  Ann was a remarkable person of strength & dignity.  She continued to be most active in politics, & volunteering at her Parish Church.  An amazing “walker,” even at 89 years, she would be seen walking at a “crisp clip.”  Often, friends & neighbors would stop to offer a ride & she would decline by responding, “Thank you, thank you, but I need the exercise, God bless you for offering.”  Her husband passed in June of 1988.  She is the cherished mother of: Nancy B. Davis of West Wareham, MA, Linda M. Sorrentino of Revere, & the late Carmine D. Sorrentino.  She is the dear sister of Linda B. Ohnesorge of New Bedford, & the late: Domenica M. Mello & Antonia Brienza.  She is the devoted aunt of Leonard Mello of New Bedford, & several other nieces & nephews, & several cousins in the New Bedford area.  Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Bedford.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Salvation Army (Chelsea Citadel), 258 Chestnut St., Chelsea, MA 02150.

To all our families, friends, and residents of Revere, East Boston, and surrounding communities of the North Shore,

We would like to announce that after 37 years of caring for thousands of families at our 773 Broadway location, on January 31st, 2023 we will be officially RELOCATING, to our new location at 262 Beach St., Revere.
On September 30th, 2022, we proudly purchased the Vazza “Beechwood” Funeral Home – DiPietro and Vazza, Inc. A name that has served families for 102 years. We feel blessed that with all of the interest, the Vazza Family chose us to carry on their century old business and family name. We will become Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals. We will continue to honor the Vazza name and continue our commitment the same way that we always have. We also look forward to having both Louis Vazza and Jessica Vazza Ferragamo alongside of us, as we come together as one.
Our reputation has always been our biggest asset. For many years people always wanted us to have a larger facility, now our facility is the largest funeral home in the area. We will be making many beautiful upgrades to allow our families to have the most elegant facility to honor their loved one.
Although this announcement is bittersweet, as we say goodbye to our home, we are forever grateful for all of you for placing your constant faith and trust in us to care for your loved one. We will continue to do what we are best known for.
Thank you for your friendship and continued support.
God bless you all.
Faithfully,

Your friends at Vertuccio Smith and Vazza.
