Joseph A. “Joe Dumpy” D’Ambrosio
Family & friends are invited to visiting hours on Tuesday, November 12th, 2013 from 4 – 8 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107), Revere, for Joseph A. “Joe Dumpy” D’Ambrosio, who died unexpectedly on Friday, November 8th at the Foxwoods Resort in Connecticut, at 89 years. Joe & his wife Judy were there celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary on November 6th. Joe died on November 8th, 16 days before his 90th birthday. The funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Wednesday, November 13th at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Revere, at 10 a.m. Born & raised in Revere, he was a life-long Revere resident. He was a 1941 alumnus of Revere High School. Early on in his working career, he worked for the former Bethlehem Steel as a draftsman. He spent over twenty years with General Electric Co. of Lynn, retiring at age 62 in 1985. A little known fact about Joe’s early retirement, which is most worthy to be known: As he was considering to retire, a young man who had the same position as Joe was about to be laid off. When Joe approached the personnel department, he made a hard & fast deal, that he would retire only on the guarantee that the young man would continue his employment, uninterrupted. Anyone who really knew Joe would not be surprised by his unselfishness & kindness – a character trait that he kept well hidden, but often practiced. Joe also maintained a business within the fish industry as a long-time clam digger, which he enjoyed immensely. He also ran a weekly “flea-market” from the grounds of his home on the marsh for many years. He served in the Army during World War II from June of 1943 – February of 1946. He is a “Charter Member” of the VFW Mottollo Post, #4524 of Revere & a member of the National Rifle Association. Besides his beloved wife of 30 years, Judith A. (Jagello) D’Ambrosio, he is the devoted father of: Peter J. D’Ambrosio & his wife Dawn of Revere, Joseph A. D’Ambrosio, Jr. of Sheffield, MA, Jay A. D’Ambrosio & his wife Lisa of Revere, Scott M. D’Ambrosio of Boxford, & Shawn E. D’Ambrosio & his wife Elizabeth of Chelmsford. He is the cherished grandfather of: Peter J. D’Ambrosio, Jr. & his wife Jennifer of Lynnfield, Joseph A. D’Ambrosio, III & his wife Nicole of Portland, Maine, Andrea R. & Angelina Marie D’Ambrosio both of Melrose, Scott R. & Christopher J. D’Ambrosio both of Middleton, Megan, & Albertina. He is also lovingly survived by 4 great–grandchildren, Gianna, Gabriella, Caleb, & Maya. Dear brother of the late Mildred A. Cinseruli. Special uncle to: Patricia M. Wyatt of Revere & the late, Vincent M. & Andrea M. Cinseruli. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to: The MSPCA-ANGELL, 350 So. Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02130-9923.
