Jacqueline M. Stringi-Ogg

The family of Jacqueline M. Stringi-Ogg, are most sad to announce her passing on Monday, April 20th at Lahey Clinic Hospital of Burlington, following a diagnosis of Coronavirus-Covid-19. “Jackie” had been living a peaceful and independent life until recently having some health complications due to a stroke. She was an alumna of Revere High School, Class of 1960 & a graduate of Burdette College, Class of 1962. Soon after school, she began with the former, First National Bank of Boston, within the Foreign Currency Department for six years. Later she would accept a position with TRAVEL-X, in Currency Services from 1998-2004. She thoroughly enjoyed her association with the Foreign Currency Departments & distribution.  For over 25 years, Jacqueline was a resident of East Sandwich (Cape Cod) MA, where she based her family. There she blossomed into an ardent gardener —she was always working with the garden, according to seasons; that brought her such joy as well the joy she brought to her neighbors & the surrounding communities. One of her fondest activities was reading & learning. After the passing of her husband, William H. Ogg in February of 2001, she lived for a time with her daughter, Jennifer in San Francisco, California & returned to Revere in 2010.

She is the devoted mother of William A. Ogg of Charlotte, No. Carolina & Jennifer M. Ogg & her spouse, Sandra Ingraham of San Francisco, California.  She is the cherished sister to Frank L. Stringi (Revere City Planner) & his wife, Caron D. Stringi of Lynnfield. She is the loving aunt to Eric W. Stringi & his wife, Bree of Beverly, Michael H. Stringi & Jonathan T. Stringi, both of Lynnfield & David A. Stringi of Oakland, California. She is also survived by many faithful cousins. She was also the daughter of the late Frank W. Stringi & Roseanne M. (Chiampa) Stringi.


Services & interment were held privately, in keeping with the ongoing mandates & regulations in place,set  by the Comm. of MA & the Boston Archdiocese regarding the Coronavirus-Covid-19 pandemic.

Gerard S. “Gerry” Alterio, Sr.

Funeral Services were held privately due to the ongoing COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic for Gerard S. “Gerry” Alterio, Sr., who passed away on Monday, April 20th at the Benchmark Senior Living at Woburn, following a brief illness, he was 77 years old.

Gerard, also known as Gerry, was born in Winthrop but raised & educated in Everett. He was an alumnus of Everett High School, Class of 1961. Gerard served in the United States Army National Guard. When he was discharged from the military, he became a millwright for Local Union # 1121, primarily for G.H. Harnun for 35 years. Gerry was married in 1966, to his love Evelyn A. Sabbagh. The couple lived in Everett for many years where they began their family and later moved to Stoneham for a period, then settled in Wakefield. When Gerry retried as a millwright, he later took a position as a custodian with the Wakefield Public Schools, he worked there for 10 years. Gerry was always doing something, he never stayed idle. He loved working and maintaining his home. He often spent many days outdoors enjoying the good weather & working in the garden & yard. He was an Honorary Lifetime Member of the Wakefield lodge of Elks # 1276. Gerry stayed very active with the Elks and participated in many events & fundraisers throughout the years. He was always on a tireless effort to help kids to stay out of trouble and to “Say no to drugs”. In an interview from January 2011, a student had interviewed Gerard for her class project. She asked Gerard questions about his life, when he was a kid, life now, things he would like to do and how he wanted to be remembered. The young student was very impressed how he was a humble man that enjoyed the simple things in life. He treated people fairly and always wanted kids to make good choices and to stay clean! He lived his life with a certain set of principles & values, he not only imposed them to his children, but to all children that he would talk to. He modestly told the girl, that we would like to be remembered as being a good person that he was. Anyone who knew him was blessed for having the genuine friendship of Gerrard’s.

He is the devoted & beloved husband of 40 years to the late Evelyn A. (Sabbagh) Alterio. Loving & proud father of Gerard S. Alterio, Jr of Wakefield, Paul F. Alterio & wife Toni of Malden & Lauren M. Alterio of Saugus. Cherished grandfather of Gregory G. Alterio, Steven E. Alterio, Eric D. Alterio, all of Wakefield & Anthony J. Alterio of Malden. Adored great grandfather of 4 great grandchildren. Dear brother of the late Pasquale & Roseanne Alterio. Special brother in law of Harriet J. Hamhoomis of Melrose & the late Dorothy DeLuca. He is also lovingly survived by Kathy Malonson of Saugus & many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews.

Brian R. Crawford

Funeral Services were held privately due to the ongoing COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic, for Brian R. Crawford, who died on Sunday, April 19th at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston due to multi organ failure, he was 51 years old.

Brian was a lifelong East Boston resident. He was educated in Boston Public Schools & was an alumnus of East Boston High School, Class of 1986. Brian worked for Comcast as a Customer Services Representative for approximately 10 years before health issues resulted in him no longer being able to work. One of Brian’s passions was coaching kids. He was a longtime East Boston Little League Coach & East Boston Pop Warner Football.  Brian was “Eastie Proud”, and coaching was his way to give back to his community. He also loved being with his family and friends.

He is the beloved son of Celia (LoRusso) Plagenza & her husband Joseph Plagenza of East Boston & the late Joseph R. Crawford. Devoted husband of Cheryl A. (Borrelli) Crawford of East Boston. Loving father of Joshua R. Crawford of East Boston, Peter P. Penney & wife Melanie of Revere, Daniel A. Penney of Bangor, ME & Stefanie M. Penney of Revere. Cherished grandfather of Michael Penney. Dear brother of Maria Crawford & Robert Crawford both of East Boston. He is also lovingly survived by several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and many former players & friends.

Gloria A. (Vitale) Hurley

Funeral Services & Interment were held privately due to the ongoing COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic for Gloria A. (Vitale) Hurley, who died on Saturday, April 18th at the Katzman Center for Living, in Chelsea due to Covid-19 Coronavirus. She was 85 years old.

Gloria was a lifelong Revere resident. She was a proud alumna of Revere High School, Class of 1952. Gloria was married to Paul M. Hurley. The couple remained in Revere where they raised their only child, Jill E. Hurley. Gloria was a homemaker & also proprietor of Jilly’s Lounge in Chelsea. During Gloria’s life she loved traveling with her daughter, friends & family. Gloria’s extensive travels took her all over the world where she experienced various cultures, foods, & experiences one can only imagine. She & her daughter owned a condominium in Aruba that she loved to visit frequently. She was known for being a fashionable woman & loved nice things . She also loved to dine out at nice restaurants & was extremely kind & generous to all that she loved. Gloria had a vibrant personality & was extremely social. She belonged to many social clubs such as the Women of the Moose Revere Lodge #716, Patriots Civic Club, and Revere Society of Historic & Cultural Preservation & Rossetti – Cowan Senior Center.

She is the devoted & beloved wife of the late Paul M. Hurley, together they shared 50 years of marriage. Loving & cherished mother of Jill E. Hurley of Revere. Dear sister of the late Laura A. Cataldo, Vincent Vitale, Phyllis A. Marino, Maryann D’Agresta, & Lucy A. Patti. Fond niece & best friend of Patti A. Fernandez & her husband Richard F. of Revere & lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews and many treasured lifelong friends. Gloria’s daughter Jill will be forever grateful to the staff at The Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home / Katzman Center for Living for the wonderful care & attention they showed Gloria, each & every day.

Elaine A. “Honey” (Benedetto) Thomas

Elaine A. “Honey” (Benedetto) Thomas, died on Friday, April 17th, 2020 at the Katzman Center for the Living in Chelsea, she was 81 years old. Elaine’s death comes just 11 days after her husband’s passing on April 6th. The couple shared 53 years of marriage.

Elaine was born & raised in Chelsea. She was an alumna of Chelsea High School, Class of 1956. Elaine married to Lee F. Thomas, on April 16, 1966 and the couple made their home in Revere where raised their daughter Leigh Anne. Elaine was a dedicated wife, mother and daughter caring for her family throughout her life. She worked in the Guidance Department at Martignon High School in Cambridge where she valued the many friendships she made over the years. Elaine was affectionately known as “Honey”, a nickname that portrayed her personality for the loving & graceful ways she lived her life and through her faith. She was a cherished member of St. Mary’s Church in Revere. Elaine enjoyed shopping and spending time with her family and lunches with her friends.

She is the beloved wife of 53 years to the late Lee F. Thomas. Proud & loving mother of the late Leigh Anne (Thomas) Zarella. Devoted daughter of the late Anthony T. & Dorothy F. (McCarthy) Benedetto. Dear sister of the late Thomas G. Benedetto & his wife Evelyn Benedetto of Revere & Robert A. Benedetto, & his late wife Joan.  Adored surrogate grandmother of Mark V. & Michael R. Zarrella, both of Woodcliff, NY & the cherished aunt of Robin M. Brickley & her husband Craig of South Yarmouth, formerly of Everett. She is also lovingly survived by her loyal and kind caregiver, Guerdy Pierre of Medford and many lifelong loving friends, nieces & nephews. The family extends a heartfelt appreciation to the staff of the Katzman Family Center for Living for their kindness and care of Elaine as well as the Leonard Florence Memory Care staff for the years of care and kindness they afforded Elaine.

Lee F. Thomas

Lee F. Thomas, died on Monday, April 6th, 2020 at the Chelsea Soldiers Home in Chelsea following a long illness, he was 81 years old.

Lee was born in Chelsea & was raised & educated in Revere. He was an Alumnus of Revere High School, Class of 1956. He was a varsity athlete & excelled in sports. He was a graduate of Suffolk University earning a bachelor’s degree in Education & later a master’s degree in Counseling & Psychology from Boston State College. Lee was a very proud U.S. Army Veteran honorably serving the country he loved. In 1956, he married his Elaine A. “Honey” (Benedetto) and the couple remained in Revere where they raised their only daughter Lee Anne. During the Vietnam Conflict, he was honorably discharged in 1969. Lee had a long & meaningful career with the Revere Public School System that spanned over 40 years. He was both a teacher & guidance counselor. Lee had the distinct honor to be an impact on many students through his tenure. Many students of Lee’s became his friends and very often the students always held him with a very high regard. Lee & Honey sustained the very painful & tragic loss of losing their daughter Leigh Anne on February 8th, 2011 from Breast Cancer. We are comforted to know that after Lee’s passing on April 6th, Honey joined him on April 17th. They are all together in heaven reunited with their daughter. Lee enjoyed weekly gatherings at Richardson’s Ice Cream with his lifelong friends.

He is the devoted & loving husband of Elaine A. “Honey” (Benedetto) Thomas of 53years. Loving & proud father of the late Leigh Anne (Thomas) Zarella. Adored surrogate grandfather to Mark V. & Michael R. Zarella, both of Woodcliff, NJ and the cherished uncle of Robin M. Brickley & husband Craig of S. Yarmouth & Formerly Everett. He is also lovingly survived by his loyal and kind caregiver, Guerdy Pierre of Medford. He is a late member of Knights of Columbus Lodge # 179, Former Member & past President of the Greater Boston Guidance Association, Massachusetts Teachers Association. Funeral Services for Adolph E. “Ed” & Lucille A. (Viola) Abate & were held privately due to the ongoing COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.

Eddie Passed away on April 8th at the Massachusetts General Hospital, his wife Lucille passed one week later on April 15th at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center of Boston, both taken from the COVID– 19 (Coronavirus). Eddie was 91 years old, Lucille, 80 years old. The couple shared 35 years of marriage together. They lived in Orient Heights in East Boston for many years, before moving to Winthrop in 2007. During their retirement they enjoyed dining out and wintering in Florida. They always cherished being surrounded with family and & friends.

Lucille was born & raised in East Boston. She was an alumna of East Boston High Class of 1957. Lucile worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the Department of Revenue Division, in Boston later in Chelsea. She worked there for over 25 years. Lucille was an avid shopper, her family recounts that she would enjoy shopping for anything but especially clothing.

She is the devoted wife of the late Adolph E. “Eddie” Abate for 35 years. She is the beloved daughter of the late Joseph & Phyllis (Delavora) Viola. Dear stepmother of Dr. Thomas Abate & wife Fengqun Luo of Revere & the late Candis A. Casaletto. Cherished sister of Philip J. Viola of Winthrop, Marie Graziano & her late husband William of Revere & the late Jean R. Scarino  her late husband Raymond Scarino. Adored aunt of Cheryl A. Vargus, Charles J. Green, Kenneth W. Green all of Revere & the late David W. Green. Grand aunt of Tiffany & Chloe Green both of Revere. 

Eddie was Born & raised in East Boston, also educated in Boston public Schools. He had 2 children, Candis & Thomas Abate. He was a hardworking man that held several jobs throughout his life, He was very well known down at the Boston Fish pier where he worked for most of his life. Later in life, he worked as a shuttle bus driver for Budget Rent A Car. He enjoyed swimming in his spare time.

He is the devoted husband of 35 years of Lucille A. (Viola) Abate. The loving father of Dr. Thomas Abate & wife Fengqun Luo of Revere & the late Candis A. Casaletto. Beloved grandfather of Keith Abate of NH., & Taylor Ciampa & husband Dennis of Salem. Grandfather of Victoria, Nicole, Natalia, Grayson, & Devon Ciampa. Barbara L. (Kezar) Napolitano

Funeral Services & Interment was held privately due to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic for Barbara L. (Kezar) Napolitano, who died on Wednesday, April 15th at Alliance Health at Rosewood in Peabody, she was 85 years old. 

Barbara was born in Winthrop and was raised & educated in Revere. She was an alumna of Revere High School, Class of 1952. Two years later, she married the love of her life, Joseph P. Napolitano and the couple made their home in Revere together, where they raised their 5 children. Barbara was a proud & devoted mother & wife. When her children became older, Barbara took a position within the Revere School System working in the cafeteria. Barbara held that position for over 10 years. Her heart & love was always with her family, she was the epitome of a “mother”. She was a woman of grace & faith. Her humble ways were demonstrated through her actions and the way she lived her life. She enjoyed trips to the casino but always loved being at Revere Beach, one of her fondest places which she enjoyed all throughout her lifetime. In 2002, Barbara & her husband moved to Peabody and she remained there until her passing. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

She is the devoted wife of 63 years of the late Joseph P. Napolitano, who died on Dec. 12, 2017. Beloved daughter of the late Nicholas D’Orlando & Dorothy “Dot” (Norton) D’Orlando. Loving & proud mother of Joseph P. Napolitano, Jr. & wife Lisa of Tewksbury, Nicholas J. Napolitano, Sr. & wife Michelle of Revere, Michael J. Napolitano & wife Barbara of Peabody, Gina B. Joan M. (Leardo) Larsen

Joan M. (Leardo) Larsen passed away peacefully in the tender presence of her God, on Tuesday, April 14th at the Eastpointe Rehabilitation Center in Chelsea, following a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia & Parkinson’s Disease, she was 73 years old.

Joan was born in Cambridge and became a lifelong Revere resident. She attended and was an alumna of the Immaculate Conception School, Class of 1964. Joan married Robert H. Larsen on February 10th, 1968, and they remained in Revere where they began their life together and raised their 4 daughters. Joan was a dedicated wife & mother, proudly caring for her family & her home.  She worked for approximately 20 years for Dr. Leo P. Corey, D.D.S. Pediatric Dental Office as a secretary, later becoming the office manager. She went onto become a secretary at the Paul Revere School for 10 years before being forced to retire due to her progressive disease.

Joan had a gift to warm any room with her bright & beautiful smile. She proudly helped care for her mother in her later years. She often checked on friends & neighbors making sure they were “ok” and if they needed anything. As a mother, she always attended any activity or games her children were involved in. She was a devoted parishioner & Eucharist Minister at Our Lady of the Airways Chapel at Boston Logan International Airport and St. Mary’s Church in Revere. Joan loved spending time with her family; that was always most important. She was an avid bowler and belonged to several bowling leagues and was the Captain of her teams as well. She had a deep love and affection for New England Sports and would often have family gatherings watching games together. Many people knew that Joan was always a huge fan of her Wonderful Family Disney Vacations. Her warm & loving ways is how she will always be remembered, as well as being a strong woman of faith. Joan loved spending her summers with her husband at their condo in Laconia, New Hampshire where they enjoyed spending time at the pool and playing cribbage poolside. She was a talented tennis player and she played many tennis games with her fellow condo residents and won many games against her opponents, including the men who challenged her.

She is the devoted wife of Retired Massport Fire Chief Robert H. Larsen of Revere, sharing 52 years of unconditional love. Cherished & proud mother of Susan M. Lemole & husband Peter D. of Peabody, Karen A. Raso & husband Marc A. of Tewksbury, Robin A. McLaughlin & husband Revere Firefighter Peter F. of Saugus & Janis M. Marshall & husband Adam J. of Peabody. Adored grandmother of Mandi, Ryan, Daniel, Sarah, Arianna, Anthony, Emily, Richie & Emma. Dear sister of Richard G. Leardo & wife Marilyn of Walpole, her twin sister Jean M. LaQuaglia & husband Ronald J. of Revere & Anne M. Foster & husband Kenneth of Peabody. Richard J. “Richie” Cecere, Jr.

Funeral Services will be held privately for Richard J. “Richie” Cecere, Jr. who died on Tuesday April 14th at the Massachusetts General Hospital , after suffering a severe asthma attack at home on Monday morning, April 13th, he was 21 years old.

Richie lived in Revere all of his life and he was educated in Revere Public Schools. After high school, Richie began to work for his uncle, Revere Firefighter Michael G. Amore in his electrical business, Amore Electric. He looked up to his uncle as being the biggest role model in his life & who had a positive impact on Richie. Richie began his career as an Apprentice Electrician alongside his uncle. He also had aspirations of joining the Revere Fire Department like his uncle & his grandfather, Gerald “Gerry” Amore. Richie had a real knack for repairing anything as he was talented with his hands and was extremely mechanically inclined. Richie was also involved with both riding and repairing dirt bikes. Among other things, he had a deep affection for animals, especially dogs. He will always be remembered as being an individual with a great sense of humor, big heart and he was always sweet & kind everyone he met. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 61.

He is the loving son of Kathleen R. Amore & Richard J. Cecere, Sr. He is the cherished brother of Alexa R. Amore, Christopher J. Cecere & Brianna Bonno, all of Revere. Proud grandson of Ret. Revere Fire Department Lt. Gerald A. Amore & wife Kathleen A. of Revere & the late Mary Cecere. Adored uncle of Haley Grasso. Beloved nephew of Christine M. Malley & husband Revere Police Lt. To all our families, friends, and residents of Revere, East Boston, and surrounding communities of the North Shore,

We would like to announce that after 37 years of caring for thousands of families at our 773 Broadway location, on January 31st, 2023 we will be officially RELOCATING, to our new location at 262 Beach St., Revere.

On September 30th, 2022, we proudly purchased the Vazza “Beechwood” Funeral Home – DiPietro and Vazza, Inc. A name that has served families for 102 years. We feel blessed that with all of the interest, the Vazza Family chose us to carry on their century old business and family name. We will become Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals. We will continue to honor the Vazza name and continue our commitment the same way that we always have. We also look forward to having both Louis Vazza and Jessica Vazza Ferragamo alongside of us, as we come together as one.

Our reputation has always been our biggest asset. For many years people always wanted us to have a larger facility, now our facility is the largest funeral home in the area. We will be making many beautiful upgrades to allow our families to have the most elegant facility to honor their loved one.

Although this announcement is bittersweet, as we say goodbye to our home, we are forever grateful for all of you for placing your constant faith and trust in us to care for your loved one. We will continue to do what we are best known for.
