Visiting hours are on Thursday, March 29th, 2012 from 4 to 9 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107), Revere, for Virginia T. (Manning) Hennessey, who died on Friday, March 23rd at Massachusetts General Hospital, at 83 years.  A funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Friday, March 30th at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in the Immaculate Conception Church, Revere at 10:30 a.m., followed by interment in Woodlawn Cemetery.  Mrs. Hennessey was born in Dorchester & came to live in Revere over 70 years ago.  She was an alumna of Immaculate Conception High School, Class of 1946.  She immediately began her career with New England Telephone, which would span over 40 years.  She rose in the ranks from telephone operator to managerial administration.  Virginia never lost friends, she maintained her friendships from elementary school through high school, to her long association with the Telephone Company.  The list of her fraternal organizations is remarkable.  She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, the Retired Telephone Workers Association, the Revere Women’s Club, & the Red Hats Society.  Her energy & zest for life is legendary.  She was a devotee of the Immaculate Conception Parish & a supporter of the Immaculate Conception School.  She held many offices within the Immaculate Conception Parish Family & was past president of the Immaculata Guild.  She held positions within the Revere Society for Cultural & Historic Preservation.  All this was done with dignity and overwhelming zeal.  This “Gentle Lady” did indeed live her “Catholic Faith” to the core, i.e., not on her sleeve but in her heart & in her deeds, & always quietly and unassumingly.  Her generosity, not only to her loving family & friends, embraced many of the homeless & disenfranchised of society.  Many of us will long to receive yet another card or note from “Ginny”… The United States Postal Service & Hallmark Enterprises should observe a day of mourning on behalf of “Ginny’s” passing.  They have been the beneficiaries of her long & faithful support for many, many years.  She was the wife of the late David J. Hennessey, Sr., who died on July 7th, 1995.  She is the Devoted mother of: Marie A. Hennessey of Revere, David J. Hennessey & his wife, Dr. Francine M. Hennessey, M.D., of Bedford, MA, & Mark F. Hennessey & his wife, Maureen B., of Melrose, MA.   She is the Cherished Grandmother of: Daniel P., Timothy J., Theresa V.S. Hennessey all of Bedford, & Kevin J., Ryan D., Brendan D. & Erin B. Hennessey all of Melrose, MA.  She is the Dear Sister of: Sister Agnes Virginia Manning, S.C.H. of Wellesley, MA & the late: James F., Jr., John, & Leo Manning.  She is also the Loving Sister-in-law of: Rita Hennessey-Theriault & William Kelley, both of Woburn, Leona Dolan of Holliston, Eileen Hennessey of Arlington, Mary Manning of Braintree, & Ruth Hennessey of Belleville, Ohio.  She was also a most loving Aunt to 34.  On October 15, 2006, Virginia’s family & friends organized an outstanding event in her honor with over 350 people in attendance & presented her with a Lifetime Humanitarian Achievement Award, a testimony to this unique and exemplary woman.  About ten years ago, “Ginny” became a fund-raiser & patron of the Histiocytosis Association when her Grandson, Brendan, became afflicted with this disease.  In tribute to her & for the cure of this insidious disease, the family asks that rather than flowers, remembrances be made to the Histiocytosis Association, 332 North Broadway, Pitman, New Jersey 08071.
