Albert L. Gillespie

Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, August 5th, from 4 to 8 p.m in the Vertuccio and Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107) Revere, MA 02151 for Albert L. Gillespie, who died unexpectedly after a long illness on Wednesday August 1st at Melrose – Wakefield Hospital.  A funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Monday, August6th at 9:30 a.m, followed by a funeral mass in St. Margaret’s Church, Lincoln Ave. Saugus  at 10:30 a.m. A native of East Boston, he attended East Boston Schools.  Albert worked for New England Casket Company of East Boston, early in his working career.  Later, he was the caretaker of the Temple Ohabei Shalom Cemetery of East Boston.  He was forced to stop working, when his childhood cardiac illness  returned and did not allow him to return to the workforce.  However, he developed several hobbies, including assembling automobile models & puzzles.  A quiet and kind man, he was very comforted by his brothers and their families.  Albert left East Boston in 1988, 24 years when he and his brothers moved to Saugus.  He is the beloved son of the late: John J. ,Sr. & Mary (Frazier) Gillespie.  He is the devoted brother of : Leo F. Gillespie & his wife Kathleen, Robert J. Gillespie all of Saugus,  Francis X. Gillespie & his wife Ann of Stoneham and the late: William J., Arthur S.  & John J. Gillespie, Jr.  He is also lovingly survived by many nieces & nephews, grand nieces & grand nephews.  Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden, MA.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Hallmark Health VNA & Hospice, INC. 178 Savin Street, Malden, MA 02148.

On September 30th, 2022, we proudly purchased the Vazza “Beechwood” Funeral Home – DiPietro and Vazza, Inc. A name that has served families for 102 years. We feel blessed that with all of the interest, the Vazza Family chose us to carry on their century old business and family name. We will become Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals. We will continue to honor the Vazza name and continue our commitment the same way that we always have. We also look forward to having both Louis Vazza and Jessica Vazza Ferragamo alongside of us, as we come together as one.
Our reputation has always been our biggest asset. For many years people always wanted us to have a larger facility, now our facility is the largest funeral home in the area. We will be making many beautiful upgrades to allow our families to have the most elegant facility to honor their loved one.
Although this announcement is bittersweet, as we say goodbye to our home, we are forever grateful for all of you for placing your constant faith and trust in us to care for your loved one. We will continue to do what we are best known for.
