Family & friends are invited to attend Memorial Visiting Hours on Thursday, August 22nd from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., in the Vertuccio & Smith, Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Rte. 107) REVERE for Barbara J. (Tobin) Hines, who passed on Monday, August 12th, after a brief illness at Hyder Family Hospice House of Dover, N.H. Her funeral will be held in the funeral home on Friday, August 23rd at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be private.
Born & raised in Boston’s Charlestown section, she maintained that same zest for & love for life until her passing. She was an alumna of Charlestown High School, Class of 1958. In high school, her classmates voted her “best dressed” & she was also co-captain of the cheer leading squad. She served in the U.S. Army, during peace time serving as a cryptographer at the Pentagon. This love of cryptoquotes continued throughout her life. Love & interest in cooking developed later, resulting her being a phenomenal chef. Traveling with family & friends brought her great pleasure & she enjoyed sharing the memories of those traveled places often. She was a member of the Revere Senior Wellness Group & cultivated many wonderful long-lasting relationships. Volunteering at the local Revere Garfield School was another passion which she continued for years. Her career at Boston’s Mass. General Eye & Ear Infirmary & Hospital spanned some twenty years, as a computer systems operator. After her time at Boston’s Mass. General Eye & Ear, she spent her last five working years with an old Boston, institution, The J.P. Hood & Sons Milk Co. of Charlestown as a computer systems operator, retiring in 2009.
Barbara was the proud daughter of the late Thomas Tobin & Rose (Carroll) Tobin. She is the cherished mother to Linda Morelli, David Hines, Douglas Hines, Jeanne Musick & Joanne Patterson. She is the devoted grandmother to Angela Brown, Anthony Mannetta, Maddison & Aidan Hines, Sheena Tillery, Jeremy Musick, Bethany Musick, Luke & Amy Patterson. She is also lovingly survived by her five (5) great-grandchildren, Jacy Frustaglia, Bruin Corbet, Mia Mannetta, Grace Tillery, Griffin Tillery & her great-great grandson, Rocco Frustaglia & many nieces & nephews also survive her. She is the dear sister of Christine Pescatore of Methuen & the late Frank D. Tobin & the late Thomas Tobin.
A majority of Barbara’s life was spent as a military family, spending all of her life living & traveling throughout the country, however, we, here in Revere, Massachusetts, are honored & flattered to have been assured that when referring to “home”, Revere did indeed top the list.
Dear David, Robin and Family: We were so sorry to hear of Barbara’s passing. She was truly a wonderful woman. Always great to talk to and so kind. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Love, Lillie & John
I am so sad that I am unable to attend the wake to say goodbye to my cousin Barbara. She was a very special person. We traveled together and went to lots of interesting places. But- what I will always remember- is all the laughs we had together. Sometimes, just a shared look would start us laughing so hard my stomach hurt the next day. We had lots of long talks and had shared experiences of raising our children, even though we were years apart in age.
Barbara- I will miss you always. I know you are no longer in pain and are with the Lord in a much better place! Love you Always!
To Barbara’s family- thank you for sharing her with me and for taking such good care of her always! You are her true legacy! Trust that she loved you all deeply! Love, Maureen
My sincere condolence to Barbara’s family and friends. I only had the pleasure of meeting her a few times but feel I know her well through a mutual friend she traveled with.
May she Rest In Peace,
Jeanine
