Catherine M. (Gleason) Cook

Family & friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, September 6th, 2012 from 4 – 8 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107), Revere, for Catherine M. “Kay” (Gleason) Cook, who died unexpectedly at her summer residence in Gloucester on Monday evening, September 3rd, at 86 years.  A funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Friday, September 7th at 8 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Revere at 9 a.m.  “Kay” was born & raised in Somerville in the Union Square section & attended both St. Joseph’s Grammar School & St. Joseph’s High School.  She is a 1944 alumna of St. Joseph’s High School.  As a young lady, she worked in the family business at “Ryan Barrel” of Malden & Peabody.  She worked there for over 45 years, as their office manager for 45 years, retiring in 1980.  The family also had a summer residence in Gloucester, which she enjoyed for many years, & where she passed unexpectedly.  For over 50 years, she & her family were devotees of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Revere, where they were most active in the many fraternal organizations of the Parish.  She was a member of St. Mary’s Womens Club, & served on many fund raisers, in the past.  Mrs. Cook & her late husband, were long-time members of the Malden Moose Club, as well.  Her late husband, Joseph W. “Bill” Cook died in November of 2001.  She is the Devoted mother of, William E. Cook & his wife, Yvonne of Malden & Thomas J. Cook & his wife, Judith E. of Londonderry, NH.  She is the Cherished grandmother of:  Richard Cook & his wife, Cindy of Saugus, Erin Barbato & her husband, Richard of Ipswich, Christopher Cook of Londonderry, NH, Daniel Cook & his wife, Heather of Hudson, NH, Ashley Cook & Sean Cook, both of Malden.  She is also lovingly survived by her great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Tyler & Jaelin Cook.  Interment will be in the family lot at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the: American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701-4688.

Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

We feel blessed that with all of the interest, the Vazza Family chose us to carry on their century old business and family name. We will become Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals. We will continue to honor the Vazza name and continue our commitment the same way that we always have. We also look forward to having both Louis Vazza and Jessica Vazza Ferragamo alongside of us, as we come together as one.
Our reputation has always been our biggest asset. For many years people always wanted us to have a larger facility, now our facility is the largest funeral home in the area. We will be making many beautiful upgrades to allow our families to have the most elegant facility to honor their loved one.
Although this announcement is bittersweet, as we say goodbye to our home, we are forever grateful for all of you for placing your constant faith and trust in us to care for your loved one. We will continue to do what we are best known for.
