Demetra (Jenis) Perris

Family & friends are respectfully invited to attend a Visitation on Friday, April 9th, beginning at 10:00 a.m., for Demetra “Dee” (Jenis) Perris in St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 11 Church St., LYNN, followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 am, in the church, and immediately followed with interment at Pine Grove Cemetery of Lynn. Mrs. Perris passed on Monday, April 5th at the Brightview Nursing Facility of Danvers following a brief illness.

Face masks must be worn at all times & social distancing must be maintained. All attendees are required to provide their name and phone number for contact tracing and temperatures will be checked prior to entering the church.

Born & raised in Lynn, she was an alumna of Lynn Classical High School, Class of 1942. Before “Dee” married, she worked for General Electric of Lynn & part time for Jordan Marsh Co. of Boston and Lord & Taylor of Boston. After her marriage to Timothy Perris, the couple lived briefly in Lynn before moving to West Peabody for 5 years. They then ventured to Queens, N.Y. as an opportunity in the computer programing industry came available for her husband, Timothy. They returned to Lynn after 7 years in N.Y. & then moved to Groveland, MA, where they opened the First Richdale Convenience Store on the North Shore for forty years. Both Mr. & Mrs. Perris ran the store for 40 years & then, in 2009, retired & moved to Haverhill, where they lived until they passed. Timothy passed on October 28, 2014. Both were devotees of Holy Apostles, St. Peter & ST. Paul Greek Orthodox Church of Haverhill & also St. George Greek Orthodox Church of Lynn. Demetra “Dee” was a long-time member of the Philoptochos Society & the Daughters of Penelope.

She is the devoted mother to Nina Katsos & her husband, Louis of Saugus & Paul T. Perris of Biddeford, Maine. She is the cherished Grandmother of Christina A. Tamhane & her husband, Salil A. of Highland Park, IL, John T. Katsos & his wife Sladjana Milicevic of the United Kingdom, Stephanie D. Hamilton & her husband Max of Gloucester, MA, Joanna E. Katsos of Brookline, MA & Brent A. Perris of Amesbury, MA. She is also lovingly survived by her former daughter-in-law, Pauline Perris of Amesbury, MA. “Dee” was also the proud great-grandmother to James & Lucas. She was the caring daughter to the late Gregory & Fannie (Cacavas) Jenis & the dear sister to the late Betty Demarkis, Nellie Jenis & George Jenis. Many proud nieces & nephews also survive her.

On September 30th, 2022, we proudly purchased the Vazza “Beechwood” Funeral Home – DiPietro and Vazza, Inc. A name that has served families for 102 years. We feel blessed that with all of the interest, the Vazza Family chose us to carry on their century old business and family name. We will become Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals. We will continue to honor the Vazza name and continue our commitment the same way that we always have. We also look forward to having both Louis Vazza and Jessica Vazza Ferragamo alongside of us, as we come together as one.
Our reputation has always been our biggest asset. For many years people always wanted us to have a larger facility, now our facility is the largest funeral home in the area. We will be making many beautiful upgrades to allow our families to have the most elegant facility to honor their loved one.
Although this announcement is bittersweet, as we say goodbye to our home, we are forever grateful for all of you for placing your constant faith and trust in us to care for your loved one. We will continue to do what we are best known for.
