Eugene J. “Geno” McCarthy
Family & friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, May 21st from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals 773 Broadway (Route 107) Revere for Eugene J. “Geno” McCarthy, who passed away on May 15th at the Spaulding Hospital – Cambridge following a long illness. A funeral will be conducted from the funeral home Friday, May 22nd at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at 10: 30 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, 133 Beach St., Revere.
Geno was born, raised and educated in Revere, a community he never forgot and was always proud of. He attended Immaculate Conception Grammar School and Immaculate Conception High School, graduating in 1958. He played football at ICC High School and always remembered coach Ron Corbett, who is alive and well. For 8 years, he was with the US Coast Guard Reserve. He was discharged in October of 1966. For over 40 years, he was with Met Life Insurance Co. management, beginning with New England Life.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 52 years R. Beverly (Igoe) McCarthy of Everett. He is the beloved father of Lorraine C. McCaffrey of Everett. Cherished grandfather of Krista R. McCaffrey of South Boston, Tiffany L. McCaffrey of South Boston, & Kenzie R. McCaffrey of Sandwich. Dear brother of Maryanne Doucette and her husband John of East Bridgewater and the late Kathryn McGovern. He is also lovingly survived by his nephew, Robert Phillips, of East Bridgewater.
Geno never left Revere in his heart, although he lived in Everett for 54 years. He was a staunch Boston sports fan, especially the Patriots and the Red Sox. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the American Lung Association of Massachusetts, Inc., 460 Totten Pond Rd., Waltham, MA 02451.
