Gary M. Cioffi, Sr.

Family & friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, January 9th, 2014 from 3 – 8 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107), Revere, for Gary M. Cioffi, Sr., who died following a long & arduous battle with melanoma at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, on Monday, January 6th, at 51 years.  His funeral will be held from the funeral home on Friday, January 10th at 11 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Revere, at 12 Noon.  Gary was a lifelong Revere resident, & an alumnus of Revere High School, Class of 1980.  He attended the Contemporary School of Music of Boston, & began playing drums at a very early age.  Although most of his working career was with Revere’s Department of Public Works at the schools & at City Hall, he thought of himself first & foremost as a musician & drummer.  His music career was mostly self-taught & inspired.  However, his father’s family were long-time musicians, both locally & in Florida.  Gary’s group was known as “That’s That,” who played often for the Beach Scene & along Revere Beach Boulevard, & also at Hampton Beach, New Hampshire.  He is the beloved husband of some 34 years to Peggy (Mackin) Cioffi.  He is the devoted father of: Gary W. Cioffi, Jr. & his wife Jennifer, Michael J. Cioffi, Derek J. Cioffi & his wife Alexandra “Ali,” & Torre J. Cioffi & his companion Emily Tremonte, all of Revere.  He is the adored “Papa G” to Addison Rose & Noah Ross Cioffi.  He is the cherished brother of Carol Hamilton of Watertown & the late Fred Cioffi.  He is also lovingly survived by his father & mother-in-law, Charles & Mary (Romano) Mackin of Revere, & his brothers-in-law, Charles “Chaz” Mackin & his wife Gloria, & Joseph Mackin, all of Revere.  Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Gary Cioffi Sr. Straightforward, a kind and loving
man not only to his Family but also to people he
took into his heart. As I ponder with tears in my
eyes and a crack in my heart, I’ll remember you
as a giving man, a man when I asked for help to
skate with the Bruins for the need of a young man
who was sick, you never hesitated and either did
your son. When you had the chance to rub elbows
with the Bruins and their Families after the game,
you chose to go home and be with Peg and your
Family. There are times when Angels are walking
and talking right in front of us and we hardly notice
them until they are gone. I will miss your Friendship
and your hugs! I will miss your warm and genuine
smile that poured out from your heart. I will also
deeply miss your overall Spirit that encompassed
    your overall being.
    To your Sons, Gary, Michael, Derek and Torre;
I am truly sorry for the loss of your Dad for you.
His Spirit will always be around you! We’re never
really gone, we’ve just moved on to another place.
To Peg, Thanya and I know you have lots of support
down your way but, if there is anything, ever, at
anytime, anyplace, day or night that we can do for
you, we will be there! No questions asked. Like Gary,
you are a wonderful, loving and giving person and we
appreciate the person you are and how you have
treated us. Peg, we are very sorry for your loss.

    Peace be with you,
    Thanya & Robert Ryan

There are no words to express the sorrow for your loss. Gary touched so many lives in so many ways. His words, his jokes, his music all spoke to people. Because of his zest for life and his awesome attitude I didnt even know he was suffering with the disease for a long time. When I found out I was heartbroken for him and all his loved ones. Through his pain he continued to create a life of love and laughter and make so many smile and laugh. He will continue to be a person to look up to and always be remembered. Blessings and prayers to all of his family and friends. With love and hugs, Donna and John Murphy

To all our families, friends, and residents of Revere, East Boston, and surrounding communities of the North Shore,

We would like to announce that after 37 years of caring for thousands of families at our 773 Broadway location, on January 31st, 2023 we will be officially RELOCATING, to our new location at 262 Beach St., Revere.
On September 30th, 2022, we proudly purchased the Vazza “Beechwood” Funeral Home – DiPietro and Vazza, Inc. A name that has served families for 102 years. We feel blessed that with all of the interest, the Vazza Family chose us to carry on their century old business and family name. We will become Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals. We will continue to honor the Vazza name and continue our commitment the same way that we always have. We also look forward to having both Louis Vazza and Jessica Vazza Ferragamo alongside of us, as we come together as one.
Our reputation has always been our biggest asset. For many years people always wanted us to have a larger facility, now our facility is the largest funeral home in the area. We will be making many beautiful upgrades to allow our families to have the most elegant facility to honor their loved one.
Although this announcement is bittersweet, as we say goodbye to our home, we are forever grateful for all of you for placing your constant faith and trust in us to care for your loved one. We will continue to do what we are best known for.
Thank you for your friendship and continued support.
God bless you all.
Faithfully,

Your friends at Vertuccio Smith and Vazza.
