Gennaro “Gino” Donisi

Family & friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours on Thursday, March 3rd from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith, Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Rt. 107) REVERE for Gennaro “Gino” Donisi who died on Saturday, February 26th at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following a brief battle of COVID-19, he was 81 years old. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 250 Revere St., REVERE at 11:00 a.m., followed with entombment in Woodlawn Cemetery – Versailles Mausoleum, Everett.

Gino was an immigrant of Arpaise, Benevento, Italy. He traveled to the United States as a young man with his family, arriving in New London, CT. Two years later, the family moved & settled in Revere, where he remained until his passing. Gino worked alongside his father for several years as a barber. He later opened his own Hair Salon in Wakefield named “Blades”, which he owned & operated for 20 years. Gino had a great love & passion for racehorses. He owned many thoroughbreds throughout the years, mainly stabled at Suffolk Downs Racetrack. Gino married his wife, Marlene, later in life. The couple never had any children, but his four nephews were like the sons he never had. His close relationship he had with his sister was special and they were devoted to each other. Family was most important to Gino.

He is the beloved husband of Marlene (Saturnino de Souza) Donisi of Revere. Cherished brother of Assunta “Susan” Riordan & husband Michael W. of Revere. Devoted son of the late Arduino & Maria Grazia (Parrella) Donisi. Treasured uncle of Thomas J. Riordan & wife Michelle of Georgetown, Atty. Michael A. Riordan & wife Atty. Kate of Methuen, Christopher A. Riordan & Holly of Georgetown & Atty. David M. Riordan of Danvers. He is also lovingly survived by his grandnieces & grand nephews; Emma, Kaitlyn, Charlotte, Grayson, Abigail, Michael & Madison.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

We feel blessed that with all of the interest, the Vazza Family chose us to carry on their century old business and family name. We will become Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals. We will continue to honor the Vazza name and continue our commitment the same way that we always have. We also look forward to having both Louis Vazza and Jessica Vazza Ferragamo alongside of us, as we come together as one.
Our reputation has always been our biggest asset. For many years people always wanted us to have a larger facility, now our facility is the largest funeral home in the area. We will be making many beautiful upgrades to allow our families to have the most elegant facility to honor their loved one.
Although this announcement is bittersweet, as we say goodbye to our home, we are forever grateful for all of you for placing your constant faith and trust in us to care for your loved one. We will continue to do what we are best known for.
