George T. “Buddy” Fraga

Services and Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett, were held privately, for George T. “Buddy” Fraga, who died following a lengthy illness on Tuesday, May 2nd at Rosewood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Peabody.

Born & raised in East Boston, he was a 1939 alumnus of East Boston High School. He entered the U.S. Navy in August of 1942 and served with the rank of Boatswain’s Mate- 2nd Class until February of 1946. After returning from the war, George moved to Revere for several years, before moving to Saugus over 40 years ago. He would later pursue the construction industry & build many, many homes in the North Shore area, primarily in Saugus, Revere & Peabody.

He was married to the former, Julia L.(Della Porta) Fraga for over 69 years, until her death on February 1, 2016. He was the beloved son of the late George D. & Mary (Canty) Fraga. He was the devoted brother of the late Florence C. Fraga, John C. Fraga, & Joseph C. “Teddy” Fraga. He is also lovingly survived by his brother-in-law Joseph Della Porta & his wife, Gladys of Swampscott & the late Annettte DeCotis. He is the devoted uncle to, Philip J. Fraga & his wife, Cindy of Saugus, Douglas J. Della Porta of Revere & many other nieces & nephews.

On September 30th, 2022, we proudly purchased the Vazza “Beechwood” Funeral Home – DiPietro and Vazza, Inc. A name that has served families for 102 years. We feel blessed that with all of the interest, the Vazza Family chose us to carry on their century old business and family name. We will become Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals. We will continue to honor the Vazza name and continue our commitment the same way that we always have. We also look forward to having both Louis Vazza and Jessica Vazza Ferragamo alongside of us, as we come together as one.
Our reputation has always been our biggest asset. For many years people always wanted us to have a larger facility, now our facility is the largest funeral home in the area. We will be making many beautiful upgrades to allow our families to have the most elegant facility to honor their loved one.
Although this announcement is bittersweet, as we say goodbye to our home, we are forever grateful for all of you for placing your constant faith and trust in us to care for your loved one. We will continue to do what we are best known for.
