Isabelle C. (LaRaia) Gardiner

Family & friends are respectfully invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Monday, November 21st at 11:30 am in St. John the Evangelist Church, 320 Winthrop St. Winthrop, for Isabelle C. (LaRaia) Gardiner who died peacefully on Tuesday, November 15th, at Presentation Rehabilitation in Newton, following a long illness, she was 96 years old.  Interment will immediately follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

Isabelle was born on July 10, 1926 in East Boston on to her late parents, Paul & Frances (Costa) LaRaia. She & her sister, Rose “Babe” were raised & educated in East Boston. She was an alumna of Girls’ High, Class of 1944. Isabelle was a proud & loving mother to her only child, Leslie Isabelle was absolutely devoted to her daughter and taught her good morals, faith, & love for family. She raised her daughter with her mother, Frances while she worked full time along the way. She began her working career as a buyer at Conrads in Boston. For a period of time, she later took an administrative position at Emery Air Freight International, where she worked for over 35 years. After working & retiring from Emery, Isabelle secured a part time position with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, where she would spend 17 years, then she retired. Isabelle loved her grandchildren and especially adored her great grandchildren. Family was most important to her, she had an extremely close relationship with her sister Rose, and her sons, Alan & Laurence, as well. She leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories & stories for them all to share.

She is the beloved wife of 37 years to the late William F. Gardiner, Jr. Loving & devoted mother of Leslie A. Ciampi & her husband Peter L. of Lexington. The cherished grandmother of Courtney M. Ciampi of Lake Bluff, IL., Holly C. Reil & husband Jon of Brookline, & Gretchen Ciampi – Conti & husband Richard of Arlington. The adored great grandmother of Cole, Saige, Chase, Logan, Vienna, Simone, Leonardo, & Vincent. The treasured sister of the late Rose M. “Babe” Giangregorio. The wonderful aunt of Alan L. Giangregorio & wife Denise of Winthrop & Lawrence P. Giangregorio & wife Irene of Wellfleet & their families.

We feel blessed that with all of the interest, the Vazza Family chose us to carry on their century old business and family name. We will become Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals. We will continue to honor the Vazza name and continue our commitment the same way that we always have. We also look forward to having both Louis Vazza and Jessica Vazza Ferragamo alongside of us, as we come together as one.
Our reputation has always been our biggest asset. For many years people always wanted us to have a larger facility, now our facility is the largest funeral home in the area. We will be making many beautiful upgrades to allow our families to have the most elegant facility to honor their loved one.
Although this announcement is bittersweet, as we say goodbye to our home, we are forever grateful for all of you for placing your constant faith and trust in us to care for your loved one. We will continue to do what we are best known for.
