Family & friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, August 18th, 2014 from 4 – 8 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107), Revere, for James J. “Potsie” Geary, who died unexpectedly on Thursday, August 14th at his Lynnfield residence, at 70 years.  His funeral will be conducted from the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 19th, followed by a Funeral Mass in the Immaculate Conception Church (corner of Beach St. & Winthrop Ave.), Revere, at 10:30 a.m.  Interment will be private.  Born in Chelsea, he was raised in Revere, educated there, & was a 1962 alumnus of Immaculate Conception High School, Revere.  His association with the Boston Globe began as a young boy, as a “newsboy.”  Upon graduation from I.C.C.H.S., he entered the work force at the Boston Globe, remaining there until he retired with over 50 years of combined service.  He retired as a Supervisor of the Computer Division.  Jim was a member of the Quarter Century Club at the Globe, & looked forward to the annual banquets.  While at the Globe, he became very involved with “Globe Santa.”  Perhaps the greatest achievement of his career & retirement was his continued portrayal as the “Globe Santa.”  Even after his retirement in 2007, he never forfeited the opportunity to continue with the joy as “Globe Santa.”  Jim was also a longtime member of the Revere Knights of Columbus #179.  He was the husband of the late Elizabeth A. “Betsey” (Calhoun) Geary, who died on August 6, 2010.  He is the devoted father of Suzanne Landry & her husband Mark D. of Rowley, MA.  He is the proud & cherished grandfather of: Alyssa V., Krista M., Mark D., Jr., Sean A., & Madison D. Landry, all of Rowley, MA.  He is also lovingly survived by his aunt, Eileen M. (Stuart) Lewey of North Falmouth, formerly of Revere, & his sister-in-law, Suzanne “Sue” Allen of Reading, & several cousins, nieces, nephews, & a host of extended family, friends, & colleagues.  He was the son of the late Regional Accounts Manager for Sunshine Biscuit, James W. Geary, & Edna F. (Stuart) Geary of Revere.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Globe Santa Trust Fund, c/o Citizens Bank, P.O. Box 845059, Boston, MA 02284-5059.

We are heartbroken to learn of Jim’s passing, and we send our
sincere condolences to his family. Jim was a dear, dear friend

To all our families, friends, and residents of Revere, East Boston, and surrounding communities of the North Shore,

We would like to announce that after 37 years of caring for thousands of families at our 773 Broadway location, on January 31st, 2023 we will be officially RELOCATING, to our new location at 262 Beach St., Revere.
On September 30th, 2022, we proudly purchased the Vazza “Beechwood” Funeral Home – DiPietro and Vazza, Inc. A name that has served families for 102 years. We feel blessed that with all of the interest, the Vazza Family chose us to carry on their century old business and family name. We will become Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals. We will continue to honor the Vazza name and continue our commitment the same way that we always have. We also look forward to having both Louis Vazza and Jessica Vazza Ferragamo alongside of us, as we come together as one.
Our reputation has always been our biggest asset. For many years people always wanted us to have a larger facility, now our facility is the largest funeral home in the area. We will be making many beautiful upgrades to allow our families to have the most elegant facility to honor their loved one.
Although this announcement is bittersweet, as we say goodbye to our home, we are forever grateful for all of you for placing your constant faith and trust in us to care for your loved one. We will continue to do what we are best known for.
Thank you for your friendship and continued support.
God bless you all.
Faithfully,

Your friends at Vertuccio Smith and Vazza.
