James R. “Jimma” Nelson, of Revere, formerly of Wolfeboro, NH, passed away unexpectedly on April 13th, at 68 years.  He is the devoted son of the late Edward C. Nelson, Jr. & Kathryn M. (Barry) Nelson. Beloved brother of Kathryn M. Salt & her husband Pat of Colorado Springs, CO & the late Edward C. “Buddy” Nelson, III. Dear brother-in-law of Janice R. (McDonough) Nelson of Revere. Jimma was genuine in every intention, and epitomized what it meant to be familial, selfless, caring, and thoughtful.  Rarely was there an instance where someone who met Jimma left without a lifelong friend. He was a permanent and irreplaceable fixture to so many of his close friend’s families through the best and worst of times.  His love of storytelling ranged from youthful adventures with his brother, sister, cousins and friends, to his weekends at the Kennedy Compound, to celebrity getaways in Vegas. Jimma became a dear friend in 1991, when I first met him through my friend Jason. We stayed in close touch over the years, getting together here in LA — and in many different cities. Jimma always remembered all of our birthdays; he was always willing to jump on a flight from Boston to LA (or anywhere) to celebrate special events, movie premieres and birthdays. When I visited Boston in 2011, took me around and showed me his favorite spots. We had a lot of laughs.

I last saw him on March 18 of this year, during his last visit to LA. We had lunch at UCLA and talked about all of the fun we had over the years in LA, Las Vegas, Austin, NYC, and in Boston. He brought such great energy and optimism to every get-together.

Everybody loved Jimma; he was impossible not to love. He cared about his family and everyone he became friends with. He had a great heart.

I will really miss seeing him during his visits to LA and will always remember the good soul that he was. I know that my other friends in LA will miss him as well.

    With sympathy,
    David Cooley

Myself and many, many people were extremely saddened to hear of the recent loss of Jimma. I was lucky enough to have meant him at a young age and enjoyed many years of friendship with him. He was kind, generous, compassionate, sincere and all of those great qualities with a great sense of humor. He befriended so many people and when he was around everyone was better off. Just so special!!! RIP Jimma and thank you for enriching my life and leaving me with beautiful memories of a great person always.

I will miss our sometimes raucous and always hilarious gab and gossip sessions at the Wolfeboro Inn. Jimma was always kind, always interested, and once you met him, you felt you had a friend immediately. A lovely man whose absence will be felt keenly in Wolfeboro and everywhere. RIP Jimma.

Send your condolences.

To all our families, friends, and residents of Revere, East Boston, and surrounding communities of the North Shore,

We would like to announce that after 37 years of caring for thousands of families at our 773 Broadway location, on January 31st, 2023 we will be officially RELOCATING, to our new location at 262 Beach St., Revere.
On September 30th, 2022, we proudly purchased the Vazza “Beechwood” Funeral Home – DiPietro and Vazza, Inc. A name that has served families for 102 years. We feel blessed that with all of the interest, the Vazza Family chose us to carry on their century old business and family name. We will become Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals. We will continue to honor the Vazza name and continue our commitment the same way that we always have. We also look forward to having both Louis Vazza and Jessica Vazza Ferragamo alongside of us, as we come together as one.
Our reputation has always been our biggest asset. For many years people always wanted us to have a larger facility, now our facility is the largest funeral home in the area. We will be making many beautiful upgrades to allow our families to have the most elegant facility to honor their loved one.
Although this announcement is bittersweet, as we say goodbye to our home, we are forever grateful for all of you for placing your constant faith and trust in us to care for your loved one. We will continue to do what we are best known for.
Thank you for your friendship and continued support.
God bless you all.
Faithfully,

Your friends at Vertuccio Smith and Vazza.
