John J. McCormack

Visiting hours are Thursday, September 13th, 2012 from 4 – 8 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107), Revere, for John J. “Lucky” McCormack, who died unexpectedly on Monday evening, September 10th at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, at 80 years.  His funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Friday, September 14th at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 250 Revere St., Revere at 10 a.m.  Born & raised in Cambridge, he was an alumnus of St. Mary’s High School – Cambridge, class of 1949.  He entered the Army on July 6th, 1949 & served until September of 1952.  He is a Veteran of the Korean Conflict.  Upon returning home he continued his education at M.I.T. & graduated there in 1957.  Most of his working career was spent as a Master Electrician for Local 103 of the International Brotherhood of Electric Workers.  Besides his association with Local 103, he was a long standing member of the V.F.W. Post #299.  He is the husband of the late, Dolores C. (Beck) who died in January of 2002.  He is the devoted father of: John J. McCormack & his wife, Catherine of Pembroke & Carolyn L. McElroy & her husband, Kenneth C. of Shirley, MA, formerly of Cambridge.  He is the cherished grandfather of: Ryan C. McElroy, U.S. Marines, Special Forces & his wife, Rhiannon of Camp Pendeleton, CA, Christopher M. McElroy & his companion, Shannel Prince Ortiz of Revere, Katelin E. McElroy of Shirley, John “Jackie,” Steven M. & Colleen McCormack all of Pembroke & the late, Taylor McCormack.  He is the dear Brother of Joanne M. Cicatelli & her husband, Lingo of Revere & the late, Thomas V., Robert, F. & Joseph J. McCormack.  He is also lovingly survived by 2 great-grandsons, Aiden T. & Cameron M. McElroy, his sister-in-law, Jeannette DiBaccio of Nashua, NH & many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces & grand-nephews.  Interment will be in Cambridge Cemetery, Cambridge.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans, 17 Court St., Boston, MA 02108.

    Uncle Lucky, I will always remember you with fondness. You were such a cool cat and I recognized that as a young child. I have a lot of memories from my childhood and you were a big part of them. We feel blessed that with all of the interest, the Vazza Family chose us to carry on their century old business and family name. We will become Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals. We will continue to honor the Vazza name and continue our commitment the same way that we always have. We also look forward to having both Louis Vazza and Jessica Vazza Ferragamo alongside of us, as we come together as one.
Our reputation has always been our biggest asset. For many years people always wanted us to have a larger facility, now our facility is the largest funeral home in the area. We will be making many beautiful upgrades to allow our families to have the most elegant facility to honor their loved one.
Although this announcement is bittersweet, as we say goodbye to our home, we are forever grateful for all of you for placing your constant faith and trust in us to care for your loved one. We will continue to do what we are best known for.
