Dear Linda and family, I just heard of John’s unexpected passing. Although it has been many years since he and I were in touch, I have many fond memories of John from first meeting him at the Northfield Christian Endeavor Conference for Youth during high school, our years of friendship while at Gordon College, and later in Revere. You and the rest of the family are in my prayers as you walk with the Lord during this difficult time.

Linda, Bob and I are so sorry to hear that John has passed away. We are so far away and so out of touch, but neither of us has forgotten the love, care, and teaching that both you and John blessed us with in our earlier years. I know that my life would have taken a different path had I not experienced genuine Christian faith being lived out in families like yours.I will fondly remember John as being a light of Christ who gave a scared kid a new direction to look towards. We are praying for comfort and peace for you and all of your family.

I was saddened to read this evening of the death of John Matook. Although I never met him, I had the privilege of teaching his son and daughter at HWRHS. If by “their fruits ye shall know them” (as Matthew says), then I know that John was a truly wonderful man and father. My sympathies and condolences go to John’s family, especially to Jamie and Nick.
    Sincerely, and in sorrow,

Dear Matook Family, you are in my heart and prayers at this time. John was such a blessing in so many of our lives. He was dearly loved by all the children and young adults of the church and was a wonderful mentor to them all. My children always spoke so highly of him and remembered all the kindness he showed them throughout the years. He will be so dearly missed. His was a face I always looked for whenever I would attend an event or church, never wanting to miss an opportunity to say hello to him. John has left so many fond memories behind. May they be a comfort to you during this time. Most Sincerely, Diane

There are not enough words to express the loss that we all feel; just knowing that John was in our midst gave our comfort. Now that he is gone, the senses of confusion, sadness, and despair are setting in. My cousin was my rock during many very dark days, and was Scott’s “soul mate” when he was in his deepest depression and falling into the abyss to hopelessness. John never judged, criticized or accused; he simply loved and committed himself to fulfill a commitment he made to Scott, and above all, to himself. His love was unconditional and honest, and for that, I will forever be in his debt. He will always have a very special place in my heart and in my soul. Thank you John- Well done, good and faithful servant.
