Joseph A. Long

Family & friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday, December 28th beginning at 9:30 a.m., in the Vertuccio & Smith, Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Rte. 107), REVERE, for Joseph A. Long, who passed on Thursday, December 22nd at the Care One at Lexington, following a lengthy illness. His funeral mass will follow the visitation at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 250 Revere St. Revere at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Stoneham.

Mr. Long was born & raised in Revere, and attended school there, graduating from Revere High School in 1949. He joined the U.S. Navy, during the Korean Conflict, in February of 1951 & served until January of 1955. He was a Master Finish Carpenter for the Carpenters’ Union, Local #40, for the majority of his working career, retiring in 1994. He was a devotee of St. Anthony of Padua Community Parish all of his life.

He is the beloved husband of 61 years to Madeline B. (Hurley) Long, a surviving member of the renowned, “Hurley” family of Revere Beach Boulevard. He is the devoted father of Nancie Long-Manning & her husband John J. Manning, Robert J. Long & his wife, Jane & Devorah E. Long-Hodson & her husband, Andrew Hodson. He is the cherished & adored Grandfather “Papa” to Cassandra Long, Victoria E.Simmons & her husband, Michael & John J. Manning, Jr. He is also lovingly survived by his great-grandaughter, Biancca Long & many nieces & nephews. He was also the dear brother of the late Frances A. Shoohigh, Frank Luongo, Angelina Kelley & Phyllis Augello.

We will continue to honor the Vazza name and continue our commitment the same way that we always have. We also look forward to having both Louis Vazza and Jessica Vazza Ferragamo alongside of us, as we come together as one.
Our reputation has always been our biggest asset. For many years people always wanted us to have a larger facility, now our facility is the largest funeral home in the area. We will be making many beautiful upgrades to allow our families to have the most elegant facility to honor their loved one.
Although this announcement is bittersweet, as we say goodbye to our home, we are forever grateful for all of you for placing your constant faith and trust in us to care for your loved one. We will continue to do what we are best known for.
