Kenneth J. Higgins

Family and Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Gathering on Thursday, June 2nd from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Vertuccio and Higgins, KennethSmith, Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway, Revere for Kenneth J. Higgins, who passed away peacefully on Friday, May 27th  with his family by his side. A Memorial Service will be conducted in the funeral home at 7:00 p.m.

Born in Birmingham, England, he was raised there until his family relocated to the United States, settling in Medford at the age of 12. Following High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He served his new country during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in April of 1955. Kenneth was the owner and proprietor of the former Ken’s Bakery, which was located on Broadway in Chelsea for a number of years. He also worked at the Chelsea Soldier’s Home in the Food Service Department as a Chef and later served in other management capacities throughout the kitchen, working there for over 20 years, retiring in the early 1990s. He was an avid sports fan, especially devoted to the Boston Red Sox, and enjoyed many other sports, such as English soccer. Kenneth was a talented bowler and also enjoyed playing BINGO in his spare time.

He is the beloved companion of the late Susie Rockwood and former husband of Antonetta Higgins of Melrose. Devoted father of Annette Edwards and her husband Dean of Melrose, Susan Boyson and her husband Glenn of Saugus and Kenneth Higgins. He is the cherished grandfather of Alisha Edwards and her fiancée Sam Parsons of Melrose, Kimberly Weatherbee of Saugus and Kristen Weatherbee of Saugus and dear Brother of Miriam, Pamela, Delbert, Beverly and the late Sylvia. He is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, and his adored canine companion Ruby Dee. Interment will be private.
