Marie B. (Arsenault) McCarthy
Funeral Services and Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden were held privately due to the ongoing COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic for Marie Barbara (Arsenault) McCarthy, of Revere born June 27, 1923, who passed from this life on Tuesday, April 28th, 2020 of natural causes.
Marie and her husband John shared a true love story, meeting at a dance pavilion on Revere Beach and married while he was on leave during World War II. They bought a home in Revere where they raised their family, and generations after. She was a young faithful widow, a mother, and an independent working woman ahead of her time. She enjoyed being a devoted catholic, praying her rosary twice daily, she exemplified love, strength and moral dignity. Marie had many friends with whom she enjoyed traveling to sunny islands and bowling on Friday nights. A pillar of her community; she was involved in various groups such as Drum Corps., the Immaculate Conception Reveries and the Catholic Daughters. She was known by many from working at Cardell’s Pharmacy and later Osco Drug & Rite Aid, always available for a friendly chat, she was a compassionate listener. She enjoyed the simple things in life; a good book, a sweet dessert and a win from one her Boston teams. Marie is cherished greatly by her family who will remember her presence at countless graduations, weddings, holidays and family vacations. She leaves behind a miraculous lifetime of beautiful memories and inspiration with those who loved her most.
She was the beloved wife of the late John J. McCarthy, Jr. Devoted mother of John T. McCarthy & his late wife Ruthann of Somersworth, New Hampshire, Janice M. Tagen & husband Harry of Rochester, New Hampshire and Beverly A. McCarthy & her late husband John Sbrivva of Malden. She was the adored grandmother of 7 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Dear sister of Evelyn Cassie & husband Gilbert of Arizona and the late Beatrice “Betty” Baptista, Theresa Mercier, Grace Benecchi & her late husband Dr. Leo J. Benecchi, M.D., Alfred, Raymond & Lawrence Arsenault.
I was so sorry to hear about your mother. I have so many fond memories of having supper at your house, and spending time at Cardell’s with your mother. She was a big part of my growing up. She was always pleasant and caring, and I will always think fondly of her.
So sorry for your loss.
Love,
Donna
