Born & raised in East Boston, she lived her early years in East Boston until moving to Revere in 1961. She attended East Boston schools and East Boston School. She loved the game of “Bingo” and played with enthusiasm until her most recent illness. She was a devoted homemaker, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother & aunt. Waitressing was her life-long vocation & occupation. For over 42 years, she held a position as senior waitress at “Pewter Pot” Restaurant of Revere. She, along with the owners, opened the Restaurant in 1960 & was there until closing day in 2002. Following “Pewter Pot”, she made her way to “Friendly’s” at Northgate Shopping Center, from where she finally retired. She took care of her clients (customers) as family always remembering their faces & their choice of menu.
She was the daughter of the late, Philip & Genoeffa (DiNatale) Romano. She is the devoted mother of Charles F. “Chaz” Mackin, Jr. & his wife, Gloria of Peabody, formerly of Revere, Joseph M. Mackin and Margaret M. “Peggy” Cioffi & her late husband, Gary W. Cioffi, Sr., all of Revere. She is the cherished grandmother to Gary W. Cioffi, Jr. & his wife, Jennifer of Peabody, Michael J. Cioffi & his wife Lindsay of Saugus, Derek J. Cioffi & his wife, Alexandra of Salem, New Hampshire & Torre J. Cioffi of Danvers & Nikki Dee Mackin of East Boston. She is also lovingly survived by her former husband, Charles F. Mackin, Sr. of Revere, her adored 7 great-grandchildren, Addison Rose, Noah Ross, Starla Grace, Kahliana Rose, Owen Gary, Shay Catherine, Jameson & her many faithful nieces, nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews. She was the dear sister of the late, Rocky, Salvatore, Joseph, Frances, Sadie & Emma Romano & Nora Panzini.
Peggy so sorry to hear of your moms passing. You & your entire family were blessed to have had her with you for all these years.
My sympathies to Chaz & your extended family as well
To the Mackin and Cioffi family. I was truly saddened to hear to Mary’s passing. She will surely be missed by her loving family and friends, whom she loved unconditionally. She was kind hearted and considerate, never a bad word to say about anyone. I have many memories of attending bingo with her over the years. I will remember her always, as she considered me part of her family. May you rest in peace my dear friend..
