Michael Dellorfano
Family & friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours on Friday, September 14th beginning at 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. (Noon), in the Vertuccio & Smith, Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107) Revere, for Michael Dellofarno, who died on Monday, September 10th at the Chestnut Woods Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Saugus, after a brief illness. He was 97 years old. A funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home at 12:15 p.m., followed by interment in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn.
Michael was born & raised East Boston. He was an alumnus of East Boston High School Class of 1939. Michael began a long career that spanned over 50 years in Chelsea’s “Rag Shop” district. Michael was fiercely independent and lived on his own. He had a very active lifestyle, enjoyed current events and would often inform his nieces of what was going on in the world. He was an avid sports fan, especially all of our local sports teams. He got great pleasure in his younger years, frequenting the Wonderland Dog Track & Suffolk Downs. His family loved him for his humble nature and easy going ways. He loved being with his family for gatherings and they loved him, especially watching him indulge in his “sweets”.
He is the devoted & faithful husband of the late Olga (Lena) Dellorfano. He is the dear brother of the late Catherine McPhee, Josephine DiStefano & Carmine Dellorfano. He is the cherished uncle of Mary Hart of East Greenwich, RI, Joann DiStefano of Saugus, Valarie A. Stevens of Lynn, Dolores DiStefano of Revere, Gail Sullivan of Middletown, RI & Victoria Stevens of Lynn. He is also lovingly survived by many grandnieces, grandnephews, great nieces & great nephews.
I met Michael when my father Steve DeRosa became a resident of Prospect House. They sat across from each other 3 times a day for meals, and I got to know Michael because I had lunch with my father almost every Saturday. Turns out that they both grew up in East Boston and had both graduated EB High in 1939. Small world! Chatting with Michael was a real highlight of each visit. He and I definitely had similar political views, so, therefore had much to discuss in the past 2 years. We also chatted about sports. My father died 12/29/17, but I still go to visit my father’s friends, which I did this past Saturday. That’s when I got the sad news. My visits will never be the same without Michael’s smiling face to greet me. God bless you, Michael, and may you and my father share a meal now and then in Heaven if that’s at all possible.
