She was a life-long Revere resident & a 1936 alumna of Revere High School. Her’s was a varied & interesting career. During War time (WWII), she was a seamstress in the garment area making servicemens’ uniforms. She was a creative & industrious worker, always, enjoying working with fabric. Her family & friends relied on her to hem a dress, shorten mens’ trousers, “let-out” , “take in” and recreate anything she deemed needy. Her talents would lead her to a very fine job as a seamstress for the once most popular and elegant “French Shoppe” in Filene’s Boston store. After that segment of her career, she would find a position with Bradlees Dept. Store of Chelsea as Head of Fabrics & Selections. “Philly” would remain there until retirement. As Department head, she was responsible for the creation & installation of the many Mannequin Vignettes throughout the entire department store. While at Bradlees, she maintained a “Sewing School” for the general public. Throughout her long life, her love for the arts & crafts were manifested by the many beautiful artifacts decorating her home.
She is the wife of the late Albert Marotta. She is the cherished mother of Eileen Marotta-Johnson & her husband Arthur of Westerly, R.I., Maria Marotta-Dillon & her husband, Matthew of Derry, NH & the late Phyllis Marotta-Sasso. She is the adored grandmother to Kelly A. Nichols-Moher of Manchester, NH. Dear sister of the late Emma Bellafatto, Mary Woods & Andrew Spinazzola. She is also lovingly survived by many nephews, grand-nieces & grand-nephews.
Eileen,Maria and family – we were so sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. I will always remember something she said to me about sewing, if you are going to do it, do it right. She was truly an amazing woman. She was a great neighbor and a very good friend to my mom. She will definitely be missed by all.
Love, Harry & Janice
