Robert F. “Bob” Gaffny
Family & friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, March 7th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith, Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Rte. 107) REVERE for His funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Friday, March 9th at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass in the Immaculate Conception Church (Corner of Beach St. & Winthrop Ave.), REVERE at 10:30 a.m., immediately followed by interment in Winthrop Cemetery (Belle Isle Section) Winthrop.
Robert F. “Bob” Gaffny, passed away on Monday, March 5th after a long and determined battle with cancer and lung disease. He was a long time Revere and Winthrop Resident and former employee of Stone and Webster and Viking Taxi. Born in Dedham, the family moved to Brighton for a short time, before settling in Beachmont, Revere. Bob attended grammar and high school at Immaculate Conception graduating in the class of 1961. While at Stone and Webster he worked as a Manager for over 20 years and then later as a Driver for Viking Taxi Co. of Winthrop for 15 years before retiring in 2008. Bob had a passion for coaching Immaculate Conception basketball, watching sports, taking care of his tomato garden and pets as well as watching ocean storms at the beach. He will long be remembered for meeting and socializing with many, people in all walks of life, being a man of conviction and his great sense of humor.
He is the Beloved father to Michael D. Gaffny & his wife, Lucy of Andover., Cheryl B. Floyd & her husband, J. Mark of Georgetown, Kevin Gaffny & his wife, Rosa of Danvers & Jill J. Sewell & her late husband, Robert of Saugus. He is the Beloved Grandfather (Papa Gaff) to Kristina M. Gaffny of Reading, Tyla R., Shawn C. & Shalyn J. Sewell, all of Saugus as well as his Grand canine and feline pets. He is the devoted brother to Eleanor McCarrick & her husband Robert A. McCarrick of Wayland, formerly of Revere. He is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces & grand-nephews. He is the devoted & faithful friend to Toni Cutrone, with whom he made his home in Winthrop along with their feline companions, “Baby”, “Handsome”,”Panda” & “Minnie” and the late “Zeke”. He was the son of the late Francis R. Gaffny & Elizabeth F. (Kean) Gaffny.
There are no words to describe how sad I am to lose you Bob. I just never thought it would really happen. You beat everything. But i understand how tired you were of struggling with doctors and hospitals and you were so good about it all, and never lost your sense of humor.
The world will not be the same without Bobby Gaffny in it. MY world is crushed – we were together more than 18 years !! My world will never be the same. I will miss you and I will love you forever.
