Robert J. “Bob” Hendsbee

Hensby Robert JFamily & friends are invited to attend a visitation on Wednesday, February 18th from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107), Revere for Robert J. “Bob” Hendsbee who passed away unexpectedly on Febrary 10th at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital at 84 years. A funeral service will be conducted in the Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m.

Born in Somerville on August 10th, 1930, he was raised & educated in Somerville and attended Somerville High School. A longtime Somerville resident, he relocated to Malden 30 years ago. Bob worked for many years as an auto body mechanic for Hood Milk in Somerville until his retirement. He loved horses and enjoyed frequent trips to Suffolk Down and due to his dapper appearance and his love for hate become affectionately known as “Bob the Hat”. A generous and kind man, Bob will also be remembered for his sense of humor and his enjoyment of life to the fullest.
He was the beloved husband of 52 years to the late Charlotte D. “Dottie” Hendsbee and the former husband of Mildred “Millie” (Blakely) Hendsbee. He is the devoted father of Lynn L. Hendsbee of Malden and Laura A. Garmon Hendsbee of Somerville and her late husband Steven. Dear brother of the late Eugene Hendsbee. Bob is also survived by many nieces, nephews and relatives in Maine. Entombment will take place in the Community Mausoleum at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden.

On September 30th, 2022, we proudly purchased the Vazza “Beechwood” Funeral Home – DiPietro and Vazza, Inc. A name that has served families for 102 years. We feel blessed that with all of the interest, the Vazza Family chose us to carry on their century old business and family name. We will become Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals. We will continue to honor the Vazza name and continue our commitment the same way that we always have. We also look forward to having both Louis Vazza and Jessica Vazza Ferragamo alongside of us, as we come together as one.
Our reputation has always been our biggest asset. For many years people always wanted us to have a larger facility, now our facility is the largest funeral home in the area. We will be making many beautiful upgrades to allow our families to have the most elegant facility to honor their loved one.
Although this announcement is bittersweet, as we say goodbye to our home, we are forever grateful for all of you for placing your constant faith and trust in us to care for your loved one. We will continue to do what we are best known for.
