After he graduated from Boston University, he was compelled to join the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, serving his country for 2 years. Rocco began his teaching career in Special Education in the Boston Public School System, specifically East Boston High School. During his tenure, he became the Department Head of Special Education. This was not a job for him, it was his life’s passion. He poured himself into his work to help enrich the lives of every student that he encountered. He also taught classes at the Barnes School in East Boston on American Immigration. Rocco also found time to dedicate to other kids, in sports. He coached J.V. Track, J.V. Baseball, Soccer but above all he was the Hockey Coach at East Boston High School for 26 years. Rocco had a gift whether in the classroom, on a field, on the ice or in the streets to take the time to listen to what was happening in a person’s life and guide them. He truly inspired these children to better themselves, to help them see a different path in life and make better choices for themselves, because he genuinely cared. In 1984, Rocco earned another Master’s Degree from Salem State College in School Administration. Rocco is a prime example of a man of great character and determination, all that he had attained in his life, he did while being a caring & loving father & devoted husband while caring for his ailing wife for many years. He endured hardships in his life and felt the pain of losing his wife and his son. He was a man who loved what he did & he made a difference in many of the lives he encountered. He is the devoted husband of the late Rosalie L. (Bravoco) Jesso of whom he shared 36 years of marriage. He is the loving father of Laura M. McDonald of Winthrop, Christine J. Pasquariello of Peabody & the late Michael J. Jesso. He is the cherished grandfather of Michael T. Jesso of NH & Matthew M. McDonald of FL. Jess’ was one of the truly good guys. I had him as a teacher at EBHS but didn’t really get to know the man till after graduation. The man I got to know was strong, funny, and devoted to his family. May he Rest In Peace. If there is greyhound racing in heaven and I’m lucky enough to get there, I’ll know just where to find Jess’. Standing with his beloved, late son, Michael, and arguing over which dog to key in the superfecta!

To all our families, friends, and residents of Revere, East Boston, and surrounding communities of the North Shore,

We would like to announce that after 37 years of caring for thousands of families at our 773 Broadway location, on January 31st, 2023 we will be officially RELOCATING, to our new location at 262 Beach St., Revere.
On September 30th, 2022, we proudly purchased the Vazza “Beechwood” Funeral Home – DiPietro and Vazza, Inc. A name that has served families for 102 years. We feel blessed that with all of the interest, the Vazza Family chose us to carry on their century old business and family name. We will become Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals. We will continue to honor the Vazza name and continue our commitment the same way that we always have. We also look forward to having both Louis Vazza and Jessica Vazza Ferragamo alongside of us, as we come together as one.
Our reputation has always been our biggest asset. For many years people always wanted us to have a larger facility, now our facility is the largest funeral home in the area. We will be making many beautiful upgrades to allow our families to have the most elegant facility to honor their loved one.
Although this announcement is bittersweet, as we say goodbye to our home, we are forever grateful for all of you for placing your constant faith and trust in us to care for your loved one. We will continue to do what we are best known for.
Thank you for your friendship and continued support.
God bless you all.
Faithfully,

Your friends at Vertuccio Smith and Vazza.
