Rose (DiMonte) Festa

Family & friends are invited to attend a Memorial Visitation on Saturday, October 23rd from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., in the Vertuccio & Smith, Home for Funerals 773 Broadway (Rte. 107 ) Revere for Rose (DiMonte) Festa, who died on Tuesday, October 12th at the Holy Family Hospital in Methuen following a brief illness, she was 83 years old. A Funeral Service will take place in the Funeral Home, following the visitation, at 3:15 p.m. Interment will be private.

Rose was born to Angelo & Rosaria (Riccio) DiMonte, immigrants from Italy, who began their life in East Boston. Rose was one of eleven children. When Rose was just a young girl the family later settled in Revere. She attended Revere Public Schools. Rose raised her children in Revere. Rose was well known to all of the children in the neighborhood. She was known as the “Pizza Lady” because when she made pizza she literally fed all the neighborhood kids with an endless amount of homemade pizza. She was like a second mother to most kids in the neighborhood. No kid would ever go without anything, whether if it was a meal, a coat, or simply love. She was everyone’s mother. She was a comfort in the neighborhood to the other parents having a woman like Rose, knowing there was someone else watching out for their child. Whenever a kid came by, Rose always had a piece of gum, candy, popsicle or whatever she had, she offered it to the kids. Rose returned to work once her children were of age and in school. She worked at various local restaurants, whether as a waitress or in the kitchen. She was a fabulous cook and had an even better personality. As she grew older, she became known as “The Grandmother with the Swing on the Tree”, and of course any kid who wanted to swing was more than welcome and then given some type of treat. Her love & affection for children was profound. She was also a feisty woman who always told you exactly what was on her mind. Her honesty certainly was one of the other factors that made her truly a genuine person.

She is the loving mother of Susan A. Scoppa of Revere, Donna M. Scoppa of Andover, Carlene M. Festa of Reading & Carl Festa & his late wife Brenda of Everett. Cherished grandmother of David J. Gleeson of Reading, Sarah R. Santangelo of Reading & Shayla R. Festa of Everett. Dear sister of Anna Rotondo of Saugus, Lena Spagnola, Gloria Ferullo and the late Jean Barrett, Pasquale DiMonte, Antonetta Lea, Marie DiMonte, Joseph, George & Anthony DiMonte. She is lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, friends, & neighbors.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.

Sorry to hear about my cousin. I remember when I spent a summer with her siblings in revere. All of them were such fun. I Remember also when everyone had to move in with my family in eastie after they escaped a horrible fire on Chelsea st. I think there were at least 20 of us living in one flat. We made the most of it . Rosie, you will be missed. Love you, cousin Joey Riccio.

We would like to announce that after 37 years of caring for thousands of families at our 773 Broadway location, on January 31st, 2023 we will be officially RELOCATING, to our new location at 262 Beach St., Revere.
On September 30th, 2022, we proudly purchased the Vazza “Beechwood” Funeral Home – DiPietro and Vazza, Inc. A name that has served families for 102 years. We feel blessed that with all of the interest, the Vazza Family chose us to carry on their century old business and family name. We will become Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals. We will continue to honor the Vazza name and continue our commitment the same way that we always have. We also look forward to having both Louis Vazza and Jessica Vazza Ferragamo alongside of us, as we come together as one.
Our reputation has always been our biggest asset. For many years people always wanted us to have a larger facility, now our facility is the largest funeral home in the area. We will be making many beautiful upgrades to allow our families to have the most elegant facility to honor their loved one.
Although this announcement is bittersweet, as we say goodbye to our home, we are forever grateful for all of you for placing your constant faith and trust in us to care for your loved one. We will continue to do what we are best known for.
Thank you for your friendship and continued support.
God bless you all.
Faithfully,

Your friends at Vertuccio Smith and Vazza.
