Samuel H. “Sammy” MacDonald

Family & friends are invited to attend a Visitation on Sunday, September 15th from 12:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m., in the Vertuccio & Smith, Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Rte. 107) REVERE for Samuel H. “Sammy” MacDonald, who passed unexpectedly on Friday, September 6th at his residence in Nahant. The Funeral Service will be conducted in the funeral home, immediately following the visitation, at 2:00 p.m.

After graduating from Revere High School in 1950, he joined the U.S. Marines in April of 1962 & served until January of 1965. His discharge rank was as a PFC.  Sam lived in the Point of Pines Section (Riverside) of Revere for over 28 years, before moving to Nahant about 10 years ago. He soon would join the work force as a Teamster with the Local 25 of Boston. His last place of employment was as a teamster at New Penn of Billerica. During his work time with New Penn, he was appointed as a Steward for the Local 25. After time as a teamster, he took a position with the City of Revere Public Works Department as a foreman in Parks & Recreation.  As an athlete, he was exemplary and was followed closely by the U.S. Marines as a left-handed pitcher. He also took on a love for the game of tennis & would return after his time overseas & teach both men & women at the local courts here in Revere. Sam also had a close relationship with A.A. of Boston. He was a proud & humble member of the organization and often served as a mentor with new members. He thoroughly enjoyed the interactions within the groups & would have celebrated the 25th year of sobriety this year. Many agree, that when you had Sammy MacDonald as a friend, you had the best of the best- pure faithful & true.

He was the beloved husband of the late Liane R. (Russo) MacDonald & Judith A. “Judy” (Fenno) MacDonald. He was the cherished father to Revere Firefighter Samuel A. MacDonald of Revere, Michelle A. MacDonald of Revere, Lani C. Miraglia of Swampscott & the late Michael C. MacDonald. Devoted grandfather of Milly MacDonald of Revere & Kayla M. Richards of Marblehead. Dear brother of Millicent C.”Tinty” Cerrone & her husband, Rocco J.”Dunnar” Cerrone of Manassas, Virginia, formerly of Revere, Chester C. MacDonald, Jr. & his wife, Sylvia (Hopkins) MacDonald of Natick & the late Margaret “Peggy” Chaffin & the late Elizabeth “Betty” Boatman. He is also lovingly survived by many respectful nieces & nephews. Interment will be held privately.

So sorry to hear of Sammy’s passing. He was my Bass Point neighbor for many years. He had a great sense of humor, and it was a pleasure to be in his company. RIP

Sammy was a friend and a member of our winter Florida golf group.
Any year that he wasn’t able to do his winter visit was a season with someone missing. He was a dedicated family man, so when family called, he was right there. He had a great sense of humor and I can hear him now screaming that “I was the biggest buster he ever met”.
We will remember him fondly and miss him. I know losing someone suddenly can be very painful and I’m sure his family and precious grandkids will have a huge loss in their hearts. We pray for you all to find some peace in your memories of Sam. RIP Sammy!

So glad I tracked Sammy down this year and had a great telephone conversation with him. Even was able to mail him a few photos of my sweet 16th Party at the Charter House. Seems like that was just a few years ago. We were to have lunch next time I was in Boston. I am truly saddened this will not be. My fond memories will be cherished forever. Just a real great guy. My condolences to his family.
He will be truly missed. RIP Sammy

We would like to announce that after 37 years of caring for thousands of families at our 773 Broadway location, on January 31st, 2023 we will be officially RELOCATING, to our new location at 262 Beach St., Revere.
On September 30th, 2022, we proudly purchased the Vazza “Beechwood” Funeral Home – DiPietro and Vazza, Inc. A name that has served families for 102 years. We feel blessed that with all of the interest, the Vazza Family chose us to carry on their century old business and family name. We will become Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals. We will continue to honor the Vazza name and continue our commitment the same way that we always have. Our reputation has always been our biggest asset. For many years people always wanted us to have a larger facility, now our facility is the largest funeral home in the area. We will be making many beautiful upgrades to allow our families to have the most elegant facility to honor their loved one.
Although this announcement is bittersweet, as we say goodbye to our home, we are forever grateful for all of you for placing your constant faith and trust in us to care for your loved one. We will continue to do what we are best known for.
Thank you for your friendship and continued support.
God bless you all.
