Thomas E. DeFreitas, Sr,

Family & friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Saturday, March 10th in the Vertuccio & Smith, Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Rte. 107), REVERE, beginning at 12:00 p.m. Noon, through 2:00 p.m. for Thomas E. DeFreitas, Sr., who passed following a lengthy illness on Friday, March 2nd. The Funeral Service will be conducted in the funeral home, following the visitation at 2:15 p.m. Interment will be private.

Born, raised & educated in East Boston, he was an alumnus of East Boston High School, Class of 1957. Because of his extraordinary athleticism & academic achievement, he was awarded an early graduation in 1957, rather than 1958. As Captain & Quarterback of the E.B. football team, he earned the nickname, “Tom the Bomb”, a title that he maintained the rest of his life. For over ten years, in the 1970s & 1980s, Tom worked as a “Youth Counsellor for the “Project Yes” & more recently as a sales associate at White Hen Pantry. Tom is a member of the Cary Sq. Club of Chelsea & the Bartolo Club of East Boston.

He is the beloved father to Thomas E. DeFreitas, Jr. of Arlington. He is the cherished brother to Retired Revere Patrolman, Harold Clark “Clarkie” DeFreitas of Revere, Robert DeFreitas of Rhode Island & William DeFreitas of Medford & the late John DeFreitas. Affectionately remembered by his first wife, Marylou “Lulu” (Corkum) DeFreitas of Arlington. Devoted friend in recent years to Mary Walsh Durant of Peabody. He is the dear uncle to many nieces & nephews. Tom is the esteemed & trusted friend of Evelyn P. Morris of Revere. The family acknowledge with gratefulness, the extraordinary care rendered to Tom by the caregivers at Rosewood Rehab of Peabody, Staff of Care Dimensions Hospice & the clinicians at Salem Hospital.

    My sincere sympathy to the entire DeFre Freitas Family..His Mother was my Confirmation God Mother..altho..I haven’t seen any of the family in years..they do remain with you a lifetime, esp when you grew up with them…I loved that whole family..lI’ve to all Joan Strangie (Abruzzese)

    Love & Prayers going to my son Tom Jr. and to all Tom’s brothers and spouses.. and of course to the rest of the family..
    And special thanks to Miss E. Morris for all she did for TOM..
    Tom suffered a long time.. Got excellent care.. Rosewood in Peabody and Salem Hospital..
    All know Tom’s favorite drink.. and was Nick Named for it.. Please get a drink in his honor..
    Tom and I were married a long time and remained friends..
    He will be missed and in my heart always…#one

We will continue to honor the Vazza name and continue our commitment the same way that we always have. We also look forward to having both Louis Vazza and Jessica Vazza Ferragamo alongside of us, as we come together as one.
Our reputation has always been our biggest asset. For many years people always wanted us to have a larger facility, now our facility is the largest funeral home in the area. We will be making many beautiful upgrades to allow our families to have the most elegant facility to honor their loved one.
Although this announcement is bittersweet, as we say goodbye to our home, we are forever grateful for all of you for placing your constant faith and trust in us to care for your loved one. We will continue to do what we are best known for.
