Wilbert C. “Bill” Longfield

Family and friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours on Wednesday, February 21st, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Vertuccio and Smith, Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Rt. 107) REVERE, for Wilbert C. “Bill” Longfield, who passed away on Saturday, February 17th at his home surrounded by his family. He was 92 years old. A funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Thursday, February 22nd at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 a.m., in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 404 Sumner St., East Boston.

Bill was born in South Boston & raised in Chicago. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country during World War II. In 1946, he married Anne Rigano of East Boston and they made their home in the Our Lady of the Assumption Parish area for 59 years. In later years, Bill moved with his wife, Anne, to Cambridge to be closer to their grandchildren. After the Navy, Bill developed his career in the electrical field, having worked for many years in Norwood. He later retired from United Electric Controls of Watertown. He enjoyed his retirement days by being active in community affairs and by exercising with long walks and chats with neighborhood friends along the way. He was devoted to his passion for music and spent many hours enjoying his tunes, especially jazz and Big Band hits. Bill will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

He is the beloved & devoted husband of 71 years to Anne J. (Rigano) Longfield of Cambridge. Loving father of Diane C.L. Totten & husband John of Pembroke, Cape Cod & Boston, Charles L. “Chuck” Longfield & wife Susan “Susie” Mees–Longfield of Cambridge and the late Julie Longfield of Revere. He is the adored grandfather of Katherine A. “Katie” Longfield of Burlington, VT, Timothy S. Longfield & Matthew C. Longfield, both of Cambridge & his step grandchildren; Jeff Totten, Doug Totten, Kevin Totten & Julie Totten, all formerly of Cape Cod. He is the dear brother of the late Edith, Margaret, August, Francis, Paul, & Otto Longfield. Bill is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews. Interment will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

Thursday, February 22nd at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, East Boston

Interment

Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett

We will continue to honor the Vazza name and continue our commitment the same way that we always have. We also look forward to having both Louis Vazza and Jessica Vazza Ferragamo alongside of us, as we come together as one.
Our reputation has always been our biggest asset. For many years people always wanted us to have a larger facility, now our facility is the largest funeral home in the area. We will be making many beautiful upgrades to allow our families to have the most elegant facility to honor their loved one.
Although this announcement is bittersweet, as we say goodbye to our home, we are forever grateful for all of you for placing your constant faith and trust in us to care for your loved one. We will continue to do what we are best known for.
