Mary V. (Shea) Cosco
Family & friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, November 14th, 2013 from 4 – 8 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107), Revere, for Mary V. (Shea) Cosco, who died at her Revere home after a brief illness on Monday, November 11th, at 98 years. Her funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Friday, November 15th at 8 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in the Immaculate Conception Church (corner of Beach St. & Winthrop Ave.), Revere, at 9 a.m. Born in Charlestown, she was raised in Chelsea until marrying Albert J. Cosco on September 5, 1938. As a young bride, she lived in Medford before moving to Revere over 65 years ago. She was an alumna of St. Rose High School, Chelsea, Class of 1934. Mary worked as a waitress for Jean’s Caterers of Milford for over 45 years, retiring at age 84 years. Mary was a remarkable & fiercely independent woman who prided herself in her determination to continue her working career. For several years, she was a ceramics teacher at the Revere Youth Center. She also taught the art in Charlestown for several years. Mary was a long-time member of the Catholic Daughters of America (former Court James Lee). She was the wife of the late Albert J. Cosco, who passed in 1983. She is the devoted mother of Robert A. Cosco & his wife Judy of Naples, Florida, Judith A. Spellman & her husband Charles J. Spellman of North Reading, Edward F. Cosco & his wife Patricia J. of Revere, & the late Albert J. “Bert” Cosco, Jr. She is the dear mother-in-law of Sandra G. Cosco of Saugus & the cherished grandmother of 8: Deborah Chen & her husband Karl of Broomfield, Colorado, Michael J. Cosco & his wife Kimberly, Peter G. Cosco & his wife Stacey, all of Middleton, Robin Cosco of Winchester, Karen Pietrafesa & her husband John of Wellington, FL, James Spellman & his wife Heather of Derry, NH, Craig Spellman & his wife Sinead of Methuen, Lynne Spellman of Somerville, Brian F. & Krista A. Cosco, both of Revere. She is also lovingly survived by 15 great-grandchildren, several nieces, & nephews. She was the sister of the late Timothy Shea & the great-great-grandmother of the late Evan. Mary was also a volunteer for the Salvation Army (Chelsea Citadel). Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
