James J. Boyle, Jr.
Family & friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, March 15th from 2 to 6 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (route 107) Revere, for James J. Boyle, Jr. who passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at the Whidden Memorial Hospital following a long illness, at 87 years. A funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Monday March 16th at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral mass in Immaculate Conception Church (corner of Beach St. & Winthrop Ave.) Revere. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery. Everett.
Born in Medford & raised in Everett. Jim was educated at Immaculate Conception Grammar School in Everett, later attending Everett High School. On his 18th birthday, He enlisted in the United States Navy to defend his country during World War II. After proudly serving his country, he returned home and returned to school. He earned an Associated Degree in Accounting from Burdette College in Boston. On November 8, 1952 He married his long time sweetheart, Ann P. Donnelly. The couple remained in Everett and began their life together, raising 7 children. Jim worked for almost forty years for Exxon Fuel, formally Esso. He began his career in the front office and later decided to take a position in the Plant. He quickly excelled through the ranks and became the Plant operator. Due to his keen intuition, one evening, during the 1970’s as an Oil Tanker was about to off-load its fuel, He noticed that something wasn’t right. The valves weren’t in the proper position, therefore the load of fuel was going to begin emptying in the Boston Harbor. Jim quick wits, prevented an oil spill that would have devastated Boston Harbor and all of its marine life. Jim was a hero, but due to the severity of the situation, many people never became aware of the dire circumstances. He is the devoted husband of Ann P. (Donnelly) Boyle of Everett of whom he shared 62 years of marriage with. He is the loving father of James J. Boyle, III & his wife Maureen D. of Saugus, Mary E. Boyle of Everett, Ann P. Jwanowski & her husband John S. of Peabody, Kathy T. McCarthy & her husband Ed of Littleton, John J. Boyle of Hooksett, NH & his late wife Jennifer L. Boyle, Matthew J. Boyle & his wife Michelle of Boxford & Elizabeth A. Liberatori & her husband Robert of Bradford. He is the cherished grandfather of 15 loving grandchildren. He is the beloved brother of Mary Dalquist of Reading, John “Jack” Boyle of Everett, Anne Pelribe of Reading, Kathleen Trunfio of Canton, Alice Cox of Walpole and the late Eileen Flagg & Richard Boyle. Also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews.
