Cosmo Fantasia
Family & friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, April 12th in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals,773 Broadway
(Rte.107), Revere from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for Cosmo Fantasia, who died on Saturday, April 9th at his Revere residence following a brief illness. His funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Wednesday, April 13th at 9:00 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in the Immaculate Conception Church (Corner of Beach St.& Winthrop Ave.), REVERE at 10:00 a.m.
Born in Chelsea, he came to Revere as a young boy with his family to his home on Rand St., where he remained all his life. He attended Revere schools & was a member of the 1946 Class at Revere High School. Blind, in his left eye, from birth, Cosmo, was determined to serve with the U.S. NAVY, during wartime. Although, that was not possible; he worked as a civilian employee of the U.S. NAVY, who remained on essential wartime work until their services could be spared or until the end of hostilities. Cosmo received an Accommodation of Recognition of Service from the Navy, which he honored and cherished until his dying day. In 1961, Cosmo began his career with Butler Aviation, where he would remain, for thirty years, serving as a machinist, mechanic & fuel agent. He retired in 1991 & maintained the many friendships he had acquired at Butler Aviation. He was a gentlemen’s’ gentleman, and a joy to work with, an inspiration to many, for in spite of his handicap(visual), that, did not prevent him from carrying his own weight in any situation. As a young man he would have a part-time job with Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett, for forging and encouraging an appreciation for landscaping, gardening and maintenance. At his own home on Rand St. and particularly on the vacant house lot aside of his home, he created a tremendous flower and vegetable garden. His design was award winning and intently cared for. And without discussion, his fruit trees and vegetable trees, and vegetables were among the best. One of the greatest joys, he would recall as he became unable to continue his undaunting schedule, was presenting his produce, especially his tomatoes, to his large extended family of friends & neighbors. Cosmo was particularly proud of his travels with his beloved wife of 67yrs., Gerladine (Tempesta) over the years. They had many trips throughout the U.S., especially to Cailfornia, Florida & Hawaii & internationally to Italy. Cosmo maintained an awareness of life and events and recently was asked by one of his Doctor’s “Did you have a good life?”, he responded with gusto, “l have blessed with a wonderful life, Doctor, a wife that I am still “in love” with, a family who loves me, and a gratefulness of heart to God, for the many trips, we have enjoyed over the years, a job that I truly loved, and my garden… and sharing my produce with my family and friends.” What a testimony, in this day and age to be made aware of and shared. Cosmo’s life is a statement of humility, gratuity to God and love of man, a certain positive, inspiration and declaration.
Along with his beloved wife of 67 years, Geraldine R.(Tempesta), he is the devoted father of Anthony F. Fantasia & his wife, Ann of Tampa, FL., Geri R. Fantasia & Tracey A. Fantasia, both of Revere and the late Richard C. Fantasia and his surviving spouse Deborah Fantasia of Sacramento, CA. He is the cherished grandfather to Kimberley R. Fantasia & her fiancée, Daniel of Skowhegan, Maine, Nathalie A. McDaniel & her husband, Lance of Sacramento, Ca., Kristen A. Fantasia of Tampa, FL., Philip S.& John A. Miller both 0f Revere & Brian R. Miller of Los Angeles, CA. He is the dear brother of Mary Ficaro of Revere, Salvatore Fantasia & his wife Doris of Falmouth, Ma. & the late Augustine Fantasia. He is also lovingly survived by his Great-Granddaughter, Macy L. McDaniel, his faithful & adoring canine companion “Babe” and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces & grand nephews. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. The Fantasia’s are overwhelmed with the extraordinary care & attention rendered not only Cosmo, but to his entire family by the Staff & administration at Chelsea Jewish Foundation & Hospice Program. Their efforts have in some way, lessened the “sting”. God bless & love to all. Cosmo was a member of the Int’l. Assoc. of Machinists & Aerospace Workers-AFL-CIO-CLC.
We are so sorry for your loss. Cosmo was a remarkable man, whom we had the pleasure to work with. He has been in our thoughts through the years, and we regret not being able to spend more time with him before his passing. We will miss him dearly.
Phil and family, I am deeply saddened to hear about the loss of your Pa. May he rest in peace.
