Rita J. (Voke) White
Family & friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours on Friday, January 26th, beginning at 9:00 a.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith, Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Rte. 107), REVERE, for Rita J. (Voke) White, who passed after a brief illness on Sunday, January 21st at Hathorne Hill at Danvers. Her funeral will be conducted from the funeral home, following the visitation with a Funeral Mass in the Immaculate Conception Church (Corner of Beach St. & Winthrop Ave.) REVERE at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow immediately at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
Mrs. White was born to the late, Richard A. Voke & Margaret (Roche) Voke on July 29th, 1923 in Chelsea. She was an alumna of Our Lady of Grace Elementary School & valedictorian of the 1941 graduating class at St. Rose Catholic High School in Chelsea. In 1950, she & her dear late husband, Clerk to the Chelsea Court, Stephen J. White, moved to Reservoir Ave. in Revere, where she remained until just months ago when she became a resident of Hathorne Hill in Danvers. After the unexpected & sad death of her husband, Stephen in November of 1974, Rita returned to the work force at the Department of Revenue. She was an administrative assistant at the Revenue for over fifteen years (15), retiring at age 70 in 1993. She was the quintessence of a Mom, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister & Auntie to so many. She certainly enjoyed her role as the Matriarch of the Voke & White families. An avid Red Sox & Patriot’s fan, going back to the days, when Joe Sullivan was their owner. And quite notably, having passed on “Championship Sunday”, one cannot help but wonder, the co-incidence of timing.
She is the cherished mother of Stephen R. White & his wife, Patricia of Easton, Richard M. White & his wife, Caryn of Peabody, Joanne M. Hassler & her husband, Charles of St. Augustine, Florida, William J. White & his wife, Catherine of Truckee, CA & Robert E. White & his wife, Tracy of Point Richmond, CA. She is the proud grandmother to Erin McCosh & her husband, Daniel of Plymouth, Kelly White of Peabody, Stephen J. White and his wife Christina of Charlestown, Kristin Allen of St. Augustine, Florida, Brian Hassler & his wife, Julie of Norwood, Alana White of Colorado, Adam White & his wife, Stephanie, Caitlin White & Christopher White, all of Point Richmond, CA. She is also lovingly survived by her five great-grandchildren; Thomas, Owen, Brian Jr., Ava and Cameron. She was the dear sister to the late Edward “Bud” Voke.
Wish we could be with all of you at this time. Rita was a beautiful person in every way. I was glad to have been to so many memorable moments with her. May she rest in peace.
A very lovely lady. I’m so very sorry.
To all of the White family, who I considered family growing up, we send our heartfelt condolences. Rita was certainly one in a million and will be remembered and missed by everyone whose life she touched. Much love, Billy and Dianne McCarthy. AKA McCarty.
With sincere condolences to Richie, Caryn and all the White family. We’re sorry that we never had the opportunity to meet Rita, but clearly a woman of substance and stamina. May she rest in peace.
