Maria J. (Lopez) Cantino
Family & friends are invited to a visitation on Monday, January 26th, 2015 beginning at 9 a.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107), Revere, for Maria J. (Lopez) Cantino, who died on Monday, January 20th at the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital of Bedford, following a long illness, at 90 years. A funeral mass will follow the visitation at the Immaculate Conception Church (corner of Beach St. & Winthrop Ave.), Revere, at 10:30 a.m., followed by entombment in the Woodlawn Community Mausoleum (Versailles Building), Everett. Born in Santurce, Puerto Rico on November 28th, 1924. She was raised & educated in Puerto Rico & later went to Nursing School there. Maria became a Registered Nurse. She entered the United States Army in April of 1949 & served until June of 1953, rising to the rank of Captain. During her time in the service, she met & fell in love with a handsome soldier with the U.S. Army & were wed in February of 1954. She & Armando S. Cantino, returned to her native home of Santurce, Puerto Rico, where they would spend the majority of their lives until coming to Revere, MA in 2008. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past February. Besides her beloved husband of 60 years, Armando Salvatore Cantino, She is the devoted sister in law of Anthony P. Cantino of Revere & the late: Carmela J. Caputo & Philip Cantino. She is the dear aunt of Angela J. Tabb & her husband Robert, Joseph A. Caputo, Jr. & his wife Mary-Lou, Camille M. Punch & her husband William A., & Joanne T. Caputo-Carfagna & her husband Alfred. She is the cherished grand-aunt of Denise Tarro, Jeffrey Tarro & his wife Michele, Devon Punch & her husband Matthew Smith, & Anthony J. Caputo. She is also lovingly survived by 3 great-grand-nieces, Chelsey, Gianna, & Ciara. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Patients’ Activities Fund at E.N. For Franklin Delano “Frank” Meade who passed at his Revere Home with his family on Tuesday, January 20th following a long illness. Frank was born in Freeburn, KY & the family later settled in Williamson, WV. Frank was educated there and at the young age of 17 years old he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was eager to leave his home town and serve his country after the 2nd World War. Frank loved the Military, when he was finished with his service as a Marine, he later joined the United States Navy. He rose to the ranks of “Chief Gunner’s Mate”. His time spent in the Navy brought him to ports all around the world. In 1966, he married Barbara P. Bruce, they had 2 children & lived in many different states and countries. Frank enjoyed a career in the Navy spanning 26 years. He provided 30 years of service to his country. After retiring from the Navy, Frank & his family settled in Virginia and became a Supervisor of the Department of Transportation of Virginia. In later years, Frank & his wife moved to Revere, back where his wife was from. They enjoyed their home overlooking the beautiful ocean. He is the devoted husband of Barbara P. (Bruce) Meade of Revere of whom he shared 48 years of marriage with. He is the loving father of Marilynn Eleanor Medina of Norfolk, VA & Franklin M. Meade of Norton, MA. He is the cherished grandfather of Eleanor Graciella Medina of Revere & Marilynn Meade Medina of San Antonio, TX. He is the beloved brother of the late Faye Meade, Mary Margaret Aliff, James Roy Meade & Arthur Meade. Also lovingly survived by his nieces, Sherry Hatfield & the late Barbara Aliff both of WV. He is the cherished brother in law of Ret. State Police Sgt. James R. Bruce of Winthrop & his late wife Carole P., Eleanor “Sissy” Bruce – Kelley & her Husband Robert N. Kelley of Revere & NH & Marilyn A. “Mal” Symmes of Winthrop. Interment will be Private. Late WWII, Korean & Viet Nam Veteran. When Alberta was just 19 years old, her life would change forever. During World War II, the Germans invaded her hometown of Trieste, and she became a prisoner of war and was sent off to a Concentration Camp. She witnessed & endured horror for three years. When the war was over, she was one of only a few “Survivors”. She returned to Trieste and shortly after, she would meet and fall in love with Jospeh Blanciforti , while he was an soldier in the United States Army. The couple left Italy and came to America, settling in Revere. That was where they made their home. She would become a mother, having a set of twin girls. Alberta loved her new life in America and being a wife and mother. She loved to knit, crochet & sew, she made various creations of all sorts. She was also a caregiver to many people. She is the beloved wife of the late Joseph Blanciforti of whom she shared 57 years of marriage with. She is the loving mother of Dr. Laura A. Blanciforti – Phipps & her husband Timothy of Morgantown, WV & Linda M. O’Hara & her companion Thomas Sullivan of Revere. She is the cherished grandmother of Molly A. O’Hara & her fiancé Martin Pino & Kori M. O’Hara & her fiancé John A. LaSala all of Revere, Nicholas Phipps & Zachary Phipps both of Morgantown, WV. Also lovingly survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins & her two canine companions Roxy & Tedy. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery (Everett). Peg was born & raised in Revere, she attended Immaculate Conception Grammar School & High School. She was proud of being 1 of 16 children, so shortly graduation she would marry, Wallace Brown Nickerson. The couple remained in Revere and started their own family, having 6 children. Peg found it to be rewarding & loved nothing more than being a mother. In 1984, tragedy struck & Peg lost her husband suddenly. Peg maintained her commitment to her family and was later blessed with many grandchildren. She is the devoted wife of the late Wallace Brown Nickerson of whom she shared 27 years of marriage with. She is the loving mother of Wallace H, Nickerson of Malden, Kevin M. Nickerson & his wife Dawn of North Billerica, Carole A. Pollastrone & her husband Gerald of Everett, Marybeth Valasquez & her husband Orlando of Concord, NC., Dennis P. Nickerson & his companion Shiela Cooke of Winthrop & Douglas B. John R. “Jack” Scopa
Family & friends are invited to attend a Memorial Funeral Service on Saturday, January 17th at 10 a.m. in St Anthony of Padua Church (250 Revere St. Revere) for John R. “Jack” Scopa, Jr. who was called home by our Lord on Thursday, January 15, 2015 after a long battle with cancer. Jack was born & raised in East Boston. He attended Boston Public Schools and like many courageous young men, he enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II. When he returned home from serving his country, Jack began his career as a Glazier. He would learn this trade as a young man and eventually mastered his craft, for over 46 years he worked for Brockway – Smith. During this time he would meet and marry Grace Capone, a love that would last for 62 years. The couple remained in East Boston and began their family, having one daughter, Elaine. They thrived there surrounded by family & good friends living in a wonderful neighborhood where people looked out for one another. It wasn’t until 1972 that Jack & his family moved to Revere, starting a “New Chapter” in their lives. Jack received 2 of the greatest gifts, his grandchildren, the loved them unconditionally as children & as adults. . Jack’s greatest pleasure was being a loving participant in his grandchildren’s lives. Jack appreciated the simple gifts in life, spending time with his family & playing Bocce. He was also a man of faith and a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church for over 40 years. Whenever Jack began something, he did it with devotion and whole heartedly. He is the the husband of Grace (Capone)Scopa of, whom he shared 62 years of marriage with. Father of Elaine Fielding & her husband Stephen. Grandfather of Ryan Fielding & his wife Karen & Stephanie Marchetti & her husband Matthew . He is the Great grandfather & namesake of Jack Warren Fielding. The brother of Evelyn Maragioglio & Elaine Tino. He is the son of the late Lucy & John Scopa. Also survived by several loving & caring nieces & nephews. Interment will be private Late US Navy WWII Vet. & past member of Paramount Men’s Club in East Boston. A funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Tuesday, January 20th at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in Immaculate Conception Church (corner of Beach St. & Winthrop Ave.) Revere at 10:30 a.m. Born in Cambridge, the family moved to Revere where Mary Jane was raised. She attended Immaculate Conception Grammar & later graduating from ST. Rose High School Class of 1956. After graduation Mary Jane knew her calling, she would attend the School of Nursing at the Chelsea Soldiers Home. She completed her schooling and would go on to work at the Revere Memorial Hospital for many years, before joining the Mt. Pleasant, later becoming Atlantic Care. She would later switch to a different aspect of nursing, dealing with people who suffered from addiction. She worked at the Addiction Treatment Center of New England and loved helping people become well, until her health started to decline. Mary Jane was married and was raising her family of 5, She and her family lived in various places throughout their lives, one time living in Mission Viejo, CA for about 15 years before returning to the Boston area, settling in Swampscott. She loved being near the ocean but above anything she loved her children and grandchildren. That was where her heart was. She is the wife of the late Leo P. Boucher. She is the loving & devoted mother of John C. Boucher & his wife Tanya of Winthrop, Daniel P. Boucher & his partner Steve of Providence RI, Michelle M. Valle & her husband Joseph, Jennifer M. Boucher all of Swampscott & Denise A. Boucher of Revere. She is the cherished grandmother of Joseph R. Valle, Lauren M. Valle, William J. Valle, Tayla J. Beatrice, Taryn L. Beatrice, Griffin A. Finnegan who died at the E.N. Rodgers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford on Saturday January 10th following a lengthy illness, he was 82 years old. A funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Thursday, January 15th at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St Anthony of Padua Church, 250 Revere St. at 10 a.m.. Born & raised in Revere, Tom attended Immaculate Conception Grammar School. He was an alumnus of Revere High School Class of 1951. After graduation Tom went to work for the Ford Motor Plant in Somerville, working on the “Assembly Line”. 1951 Tom joined the United States Army, serving his country proudly during the Korean Conflict. When Tom returned home from his duty, he went to work for United Airlines, for 18 years. On March 5th, 1957 Tom would marry Anna L. “Louise” Peters. The couple remained in Revere when they began their family, later moving to Chelsea raising their 6 children. Tom worked very hard and always dreamed of having his own business, so he began “Spencer Property Management” a business that he owned & operated for 51 years. Tom was also a life member of the Revere Lodge of Elks #1171. Through all of his achievements & success, there was nothing that he enjoyed more than being with his family. He is the devoted husband of Anna L. “Louise” (Peters) Finnegan of whom he shared 57 years of marriage. He is the loving father of Coleen A. Doss & her late husband James A. Doss of Louisville,KY , Marcelle M. McDonough, Jacqueline M. Finnegan both of Chelsea, Daniel G. Finnegan of Somerville, Sean T. Finnegan & his wife Aretuza & the late Thomas H. Finnegan. He is the cherished grandfather of Chrystal, Melanie, James, Asenath, Katie, John, Jasmine, Kenya, Desiree & Brianna. He is the adored great grand father of 12. Gillis who died on January 8, 2015 at the Brockton V.A. Medical center, following a long illness at the age of 68 years old, on the eve of his 69th birthday. A funeral Service will follow the visitation in the Funeral Home. Born in Malden, Ronald was raised in Medford, attended Medford public schools. In March of 1965 he enlisted the United States Air Force, during the Viet Nam Era. After his return from his military service, he worked at various jobs. One of his favorite jobs was as a Security Guard at the Museum of Science. Ron loved to see the many exhibits and learn about the fascinating history that the museum showcased. Ron passion in life was his talents as an artist. He was a gifted artist being able to paint portraits of people, landscapes, seascapes, nature and many other unique settings. He began his very own “On – Line” Art Studio. Due to his declining health, it forced him to become a resident at the Chelsea Soldiers Home at an early age, then to the Brockton V. A. Medical Center where he passed. He is the loving son of the late Charles & Florence (Young) Gillis. The cherished father of Rachel M. Gillis – Hood & her husband Brandon of Everett, Leah M. Gillis of Revere & Mica D. Gifford & her husband Zachary of Cloverdale, CA. He is the adored grandfather of Caleb G. McCarthy. He is the beloved brother of Richard Gillis & His wife Anna of Florida & Dorothy Perelli & her husband Edward of Everett. Also lovingly survived by his former wife Laura A. He was a graduate of North Shore Tech in Middleton, Class of 2001. Ken went onto Leslie University, enrolled in the “Threshhold” program for a year. Ken lived in Lynn for many years before moving to Cambridge for the past 2 years. He was employed at the Landmark Theatre in Cambridge and worked various positions there. Ken loved movies, all types. He was also known for his competiveness when playing video games. Ken also was studying “Aikido Martial Arts” but due to his health issues was forced to stop. He loved Rap & Hip Hop music. He is the loving son of Susan G. Liotta of Lynn. He is the beloved brother of Anne A. O’Hara, Leina Okamura both of Lynn, Revere Fire Fighter Kevin M. O’Hara & Revere Firefighter Michael O’Hara & Jennifer O’Hara all of Revere. He is the cherished uncle of Michael O’Hara, Jr. & Angelina O’Hara. Loving grandson of the late Ret. She lived in Lynn and went to work at Forbes Lithograph of Lynn. She was married and settled in Revere and that was where Molly made her home and raised her three children. She worked as a Credit Analyst for Bois & Gannon for many years, later becoming Alliance Associates. Molly was very proud of her Scottish Heritage. She was also very proud of Revere, she loved her city. She will be remembered for her warm smile, Scottish brogue & witty sense of humor. She is the loving mother of Ronald W. Zolla & his wife Lee of Portsmouth, NH, Toni Sicari & her husband Sebastian of Boxford & Leslie L. Zolla of Stoneham. She is the beloved sister of Patricia E. Cairns of Glasgow, Scotland & the late Margaret Carroll.
