Paul A. Bright, Jr.

Paul A. Bright Jr. loved life and lived it with enthusiasm, joy, and an open heart that warmly encompassed everyone he loved and who loved him.

He loved the Boston Bruins, Aerosmith, cooking, his two cats, and, most of all, his cherished daughters, granddaughter, family, and loyal friends.

A Revere resident for most of his life, Paul passed away suddenly on Sunday, April 26. He was 62.

Paul is survived by four daughters, Amanda, Dayna, Diandra, and Danae Bright, all of Revere; a granddaughter, Julianna; three siblings, Kathleen Bright-Procopio and her husband David of Saugus, Revere Fire Chief Christopher Bright and his wife Mary Ellen of Wakefield, and Amy Ciccone and her husband Eric of Marblehead. He also leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins and his aunt and uncle, Marilyn (Toomey) and Raymond Longden, of Fairfield, Conn. He was the former husband of Diana(DeSimone) Bright of Revere.

Born in Revere to the late Paul Sr. and Katherine (Toomey) Bright, Paul attended the Immaculate Conception School and graduated from Revere High School, where he skated for the school’s strong hockey teams and was chosen as a team captain in 1975.  He would remain an ardent sports fan throughout his life, especially of the Bruins and Patriots.

He enjoyed the company of a group of loyal friends who often gathered behind the old Revere Cinema on Broadway, and, in reference to the place where they hung out, called themselves the Show Yard Kickers. Once, as youths, they painted a mural on a wall in tribute to the rock band Aerosmith, and Paul would remain a passionate fan of their music throughout his life.

He was employed for many years in the culinary industry, working as a chef for Marriott Hotels and prominent corporate and event catering companies. Throughout his life, Paul enjoyed cooking and good food, and at one point contributed a recipe column to The Revere Journal.

Later in his life Paul worked as a 911 call-taker for the city of Revere and later for the city of Chelsea. After several years he was promoted to deputy director of the Chelsea 911 department. He retired several years ago.

Paul lived in Chelsea briefly and moved to Boston two years ago. In his retirement, in addition to his close bonds with his daughters and granddaughter, dear friends and family, he also cherished the companionship of his two beloved cats, J.J. and Mittens, whom he had rescued separately.

Throughout his life, Paul was a joyous and warm presence whenever he was around family and his many friends, always quick with a smile, a laugh, or a humorous remark. He had the gift of making people feel good when they were around him.

Funeral arrangements, under the direction of Vertuccio and Smith Home for Funerals in Revere, are private because of restrictions caused by the COVID-19 public health emergency.

Remembrances in Paul Bright Jr.’s name may be made to the Animal Rescue League of Boston, 10 Chandler St., Boston MA 02116.

His motivation was to join & defend his country and his older brother was doing the same. Edward proudly served and returned home, unfortunately, his brother did not. In 1949, he married his long time love, Barbara D. Cheetham. The couple moved to Revere & remained there while they raised their three sons.  When he returned home from the war, he went to work at the Charlestown Navy Yard. He worked there with his father-in-law and in later years with his son.  Edward was a Crane Operator, working there until 1976. Edward also worked at the Wonderland dog Track in the Receiving Department. His tireless work ethic was demonstrated throughout his life. He finally retired from work at the age of 76, after putting in 22 years at the Northeast Regional Vocational School in Wakefield as a Custodian. However, he wasn’t the usual quiet custodian, he engaged with the students very frequently.  He often would be advocating the importance of leading a good life, staying out of trouble and being a good person. Ed gave 110% of himself to anything that he did. Ed was always a man of giving, no matter how big or small. He was a very good friend of Lenny DeMaino and would frequent his restaurant almost daily. For over 20 years, he would dress up as Santa Claus at DeMaino’s Restaurant in Revere & at the Northeast Regional Vocational High School. He was a man of tall stature & large frame but his heart was larger than he was. Ed loved to fish, it was in his DNA. He was a long time Member at the Malden Anglers. Timothy P. Flynn

At 59 years, left this earth on April 20th when he lost his 2-year courageous battle with cancer. He fought proudly and independently to the end. Beloved son of the late William P. Flynn & Elizabeth M. (LaFay) Flynn. Cherished brother of Retired Revere Police Sargent Daniel L. Flynn & his wife Lois of Chelsea, Patricia A. Flynn-Gallucci of Revere, Michael J. Flynn, Carolyn J. Flynn & her husband Ron Day, all of Nahant, Barbara E. Foulds & Nancy L. Flynn, both of Revere & the late Ann Marie Bostrom & the late William C. Flynn & his late wife, Joanne M. Flynn. Also lovingly survived by 11 nieces & nephews & 10 grandnieces & nephews.

Services & Interment were held privately in keeping with the restrictions and mandates still imposed by the Comm. of MA & the Boston Archdiocese regarding the Coronavirus-COVID-19 pandemic. A Celebration of Life will be held and announced on social media & our funeral home website.

“Timmy” was a lifelong Revere resident & proud of it. He was a 1978 Alumnus of Revere High School. For over 10 years, he tended bar at the Wonderland Dog Racing Track & also for about 15 years, he worked in the same capacity at “Mickey Reardon’s Cafe” in Oak Island. His last career came to be in the Construction field as a laborer for about 15 years.

Timmy always maintained his dynamic personality, accompanied by his bigger than life sense of humor & wit. Always ready for an “on stage” he would relish in delivering one of his cameo stories; the stage was his. Chance encounters were the hallmark of his persona for his almost “stand up” comic role. He was one of the kindest souls with the biggest heart. No favor was too much for him to fulfill for his adoring family & extended family. He prided the title of “Baby Brother” as the youngest of 9 in his Irish-Catholic Family from Oak Island. No one was prouder than he with the honor of becoming an uncle; 11 times was tremendous, however, when those little ones started having babies, it was magical for Timmy and that was for 10 times. Four devoted cousins & his faithful friend Joanne Nickerson of Winthrop also survive him. As the years roll by & family gets together, we will be recalling with laughter & tears “funny, crazy uncle Timmy stories.” One nephew summed it up thusly…”Nobody did it their own way more than you, Uncle Timmy & we love you for that…” His real best buddy, “Gronk,” a 5 year old boxer dog that Timmy walked up and down Broadway almost daily & to the Sons of Italy Lodge for a cold one. “Gronk” would practically break a leg bolting down the stairs for fear of Timmy sneaking out without him. As Timmy flies with the angels, he may have some “splaining” to do but everything he did was always with love and never with malice. He has left the Flynns with yet another emptiness in their hearts. Timmy, we love you to death & already miss you. Timmy was a member of the Revere Lodge Sons of Italy (Giuseppe Mazzini Chapter) & the Revere VFW Mottollo Post #4524.

Funeral Services were Private. A Celebration of Life will be held and announced on social media & our website.
