Winifred R. “Winnie” (Dixon) Dyer

Visiting hours are Thursday, June 7th, 2012 from 4 – 8 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home For Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107), Revere, for Winifred R. “Winnie” (Dixon) Dyer, who died at her Peabody home on Saturday evening, June 2, 2012, at 86 years.  A funeral will be conducted from the Funeral Home on Friday, June 8th at 10 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in the Immaculate Conception Church, Revere at 11 a.m.  “Winnie” was born & raised in Chelsea, a member of St. Rose Parish & a 1943 alumna of St. Rose High School, Chelsea.  In her early working career, she worked for New England Tel. & Tel., & Gilchrist’s Department Store of Boston.  She was a resident of Revere for over 65 years, until she moved to her daughter’s home in Peabody.  She was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Parish Community & past president of the Immaculata Guild.  She was also a member of the Revere Womens’ Club, St. Rose Alumni High School Association, & the Irish Club of Chelsea.  Upon moving to Peabody, she became a member of the Peabody Seniors.  She was the wife of the late John F. Dyer, who died in May of 1996.  She is the Beloved & devoted Mother of: Christine Dyer-Nagle & her late Husband, Robert, of West Peabody, John M. Dyer & his wife Ann of Melrose, Maureen Dyer-Sullivan & her husband Brian of Melrose, & the late Kathleen Dyer-Geratowski & her late husband, Stephen Geratowski.  She is the Cherished Grandmother to: Annie, Mary Kate, Jennifer, Caitlin, Matthew, Colin, Katey, Jack, & Liam.  She was the dear Sister to the late: Catherine McDonald, Margaret Bean, Howard, William, Joseph, & Francis Dixon.  She is also lovingly survived by her Sister-in-Law, Mary Dixon, of New Hampshire, & many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, & grand-nephews.  Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the: Peabody Seniors, (Peabody City Council on Aging), 79 Central St., Peabody, MA 01960.

Adefowope T. “Adie” Fetuga

Family and friends are invited to visit with the family on Tuesday, June 5th, beginning at 4 p.m. thru 6 p.m. in the Vertuccio and Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107) Revere, MA 02151, for Adefowope T. Fetuga.  Who died  on Thursday, May 31st following a long and arduous battle with metastatic carcinoma, at the Lighthouse Nursing Facility of Revere.  A funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home at 6:15 p.m..  Mr. Fetuga was born and raised in Nigeria, Africa and came to live in the United States six years ago, settling in Revere.  For five years he worked for Allied – Barton Security Company.  “Adie” was highly regarded not only within his own community but also at his place of employment, as a dedicated family man.  As his illness intensified he became more protective for the welfare and care of his devoted wife and three children.  He is the beloved husband of: Francisca U. (Aghedo) Fetuga and the devoted & cherished father to:  Adeola M. , Ademola Adegbui,  and Adekanmi P. Fetuga , all of Revere.  He is also lovingly survived by a large extended family in Nigeria.  Interment will be private.

Joseph A. Palermo

Family & friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, June 3rd, 2012 from 3 – 6 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107), Revere, for Joseph A. Palermo, who died on Wednesday, May 30th at Wingate of Reading, following a brief illness, at 94 years.  A funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Monday, June 4th at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in the Immaculate Conception Church (corner of Beach St. & Winthrop Ave.), Revere, at 10:30 a.m.  Born & raised in Revere, he was a life-long resident and a 1935 alumnus of Revere High School.  In March of 1941, he entered the service of the United States Army & served until September of 1944.  He is a decorated World War II Army Veteran.  He is the recipient of an “Official Commendation for meritorious conduct,” during the Battle of Guadalcanal, presented to him on January 12, 1943.  He retired in 1982, as a Mechanical Engineer for Donnelly Manufacturing Corporation of Waltham, after 35 years of service.  He is the beloved husband of 68 years to Elsie A. (Pasquale), & the Devoted father of: Paul A. Palermo & his wife Tina of Tewksbury, Jay Marie Palermo & her husband James Barton of Salem, & Edward J. Palermo & his wife Linda of Wilmington.  He is also lovingly survived by 7 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, & many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, & grand-nephews.  He was the Brother of the late, John & Patrick Palermo & Josephine DiFabio.  Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Revere Society for Cultural & Historic Preservation, 108 Beach St., Revere, MA 02151.  Both Mr. Palermo & his wife, Elsie, were founding members of the Revere Society for Cultural & Historic Preservation & remained active until 2010.

Ann (Ficaro) Provenzano

Ann (Ficaro) Provenzano

Visiting hours are on Thursday, May 31st, 2012 from 4 – 8 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107), Revere, for Ann (Ficaro) Provenzano, who died on Monday, May 28th at the Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home, following a brief illness, at 87 years.  A funeral will be conducted from the Funeral Home on Friday, June 1st at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Clement’s Church on the Somerville-Medford line (64 Warner St., Medford), at 10 a.m.  Mrs. Provenzano was born & raised in Boston’s North End & educated there.  In 1954, she moved with her family to Medford, where she remained until 1955, when she moved to Revere with her daughter.  In her early working career, she worked in Boston’s Garment district as a seamstress & clothing designer for several of the area’s clothing manufacturers.  She is the wife of the late: Michael S. Provenzano, who passed in July of 1968.  She is the devoted mother of: Eleanor J. Long & her husband Robert P. of Revere, Michael S. Provenzano, Jr. & his wife Janice of Billerica, & Leonard C. Provenzano & his wife Ramona of Medford.  She is the Dear sister of Antoinetta Scola of Everett, Giacamo “Jackie” Ficaro & his wife Marie of Winthrop, & the late: Charles, Stephen, & Nicholas Ficaro, & Mary Tortorici.  She is also lovingly survived by 6 Grandchildren, 3 Great-Grandchildren, & many nieces,  nephews, Grand-nieces, & Grand-nephews.  Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Patients’ Activities Fund at Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home, 17 Lafayette Ave., Chelsea, MA 02150.

Born & raised in Chelsea, MA she was a 1946 alumna of Chelsea High School.  Lorraine married Joseph J. Bowman, Sr. in 1951 and moved to Revere in 1954 where they raised four children.  In 2000, they moved to Stoneham, MA.  She was active within Immaculate Conception Parish Community & was past President of the Immaculata Guild.  She is the beloved wife of 61 years to: Retired Revere Fire Captain Joseph J. Bowman. Sr., she is the devoted mother of: Jorraine M. Spelman & her husband Philip of Stoneham, MA, Joseph J. Bowman, Jr & his wife Karen of Brecksville, OH, Lisa M. Carlson & her husband James of Saugus, MA and Christine B. Emond & her husband Douglas of Marblehead, MA.  She is the dear sister of Patricia Colburne of Wakefield, MA  and the late Marcella Edgett, Ernestine Page & Chelsea Patrolman Joseph E. Rosamond “Ruth” (Tower) Gregory

Private Funeral services & interment have been held for Rosamond “Ruth” (Tower) Gregory, who died on Thursday, May 17th, 2012 at the Epoch Healthcare of Melrose, following a long illness, at 88 years.  Born & raised in Chelsea, she was a 1941 alumna of Chelsea High School.  She was a long-time member of the First Congregational Church of Chelsea & the Chelsea Winnissemett Club.  “Ruth” retired from the S. Whitmore Company of Revere in 1987 after 25 years of service as an executive accountant.  She has been a Revere resident for over 25 years.  She is the Cherished Mother of John T. Gregory & his wife Linda J. (Kelley) Gregory, & the beloved grandmother of Liann J. Gregory, all of Tewksbury.  She is also lovingly survived by her devoted care-giver David Lawson of Revere, her sister-in-law Lorraine Tower of East Boston, & several nieces & nephews.  She was the Daughter of the late: Joseph & Mabel G. Louise L. (Neily) Canessa

Family & friends are invited to visit at the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107), Revere, on Wednesday, May 16th, 2012 for Louise L. (Neily) Canessa, beginning at 10 a.m., followed by the Funeral Service in the Funeral Home at 11 a.m., followed by interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.  Mrs. Canessa, also known professionally as “Louise Jordan,” died on Saturday evening, May 12th at the Chelsea Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, following a brief illness, at 98 years.  Born in Winthrop, she was a lifelong Revere resident, graduating from Revere High School, Class of 1931.  She was an alumna of Emerson College, Class of 1936.  She pursued a career as an actress & impersonator, here in Boston, during the late 30’s until 1950.  She performed at concert halls and other venues, under the professional name of, “Louise Jordan.”  She appeared on stage at the Colonial, Shubert & Wilbur theatres in Boston.  As her reviews have stated, “her commanding stage presence will interest the most particular audience.”  After leaving the theatre, she married Joseph D. Canessa; he passed in September of 1969.  Mrs. Canessa hailed from one of Revere’s oldest families, the Neily family.  Her late parents, George M. & Sarah J. (McDonald) Neily, owned & operated “George M. Neily Insurance,” later known as Revere Insurance Agency of North Shore Road, Revere.  She has a long career with General Electric Corporation of Lynn, for over 30 years, in managerial & supervisory positions.  She also was a Past President & member of the Revere Womens’ Club.  Until 2 years ago, she was a familiar sight at her home at the corner of Beach St. & Carey Avenue, gardening or sweeping the sidewalk, pulling weeds… always dressed in a ruffled blouse, skirt or very dressy “smock,” with her hair done, cosmetics, flawlessly applied, jewelry on & usually in low heel shoes.  Always, a “perfect lady,” and after I knew her background, “always on stage.”  What a wonderful presence, she eminated all her life.  When I took care of the funerals for her dear parents, the services were “standing room only,” & the flowers were elegant & unusual as well as the quantity.  Respect, that was given to her at those times, only affirmed the quality & personality of Mrs. Canessa, realizing too, that she was an only child, she & her husband were never blessed with children or grandchildren… their respect and presence was for, “Louise.”  She leaves three cousins: Charlotte Cuneo of Quincy, Sandra & Walter MacDonald of Boston.  She is also lovingly survived by her devoted caregivers, Linda M. O’Hara & her family of Revere.  Remembrances may be made to the charity of your choice.

(Booras) DeLong, privately, last week, at Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals of Revere.  Mrs. DeLong died on Thursday, May 10th, 2012 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Medford, after a brief illness, at 87 years.  Born & raised in Everett, she lived in Chelsea for many years, before coming to Revere over 35 years ago.  She was the wife of the late William DeLong & the devoted Mother of Darlene P. Swan-Shea & her husband, Thomas J. Shea of Revere.  She is the Beloved Grandmother of: Melanie Blackstock & her husband, Adam of Stoneham, & Julie Antonious of Marblehead.  She is also lovingly survived by her 3 Great-Grandchildren: Samantha, Isabelle, & Eric.  She was the Daughter of the late: Frederick P. (Higgins) Goodwin, who died on Wednesday, May 9th at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, Melrose, following a long illness, at 81 years.  A funeral mass will follow at 11 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church, Revere, followed by interment in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.  Born & raised in Revere, she was a 1949 alumna of Revere High School.  Virginia wore many hats during her working career.  She worked for the former Honeywell Corporation for over 30 years, then to the Veterans’ Administration in Boston as a recording clerk for 12 years, and then as a Revere Crossing Guard for the City of Revere.  She also was a past President & member of Revere’s V.F.W. Post #6712 – Ladies’ Auxiliary.  She was the wife of the late Henry R. “Doug” Goodwin, who died in July of 1997.  She is the Devoted mother of Paulette L. Trumbley & her fiance, Todd J. DeCost of Winthrop.  She is the dear twin sister of the late Catherine M. Poelaert.  She is the cherished aunt of: Karen E. Swain & her husband, Frederick, Robert F. Poelaert & his wife, Carol, all of Bellingham, MA.  She is also the loving Grand-Aunt to: Kelly E., Kayla M., Kristen T., & Bradley O. Swain, & Thomas J. (O’Reilly) Leach, beginning at 10 a.m. & followed by a funeral mass in the Immaculate Conception Church at 12 Noon.  Mrs. Leach died following a long illness on Tuesday, May 8th at her Winthrop home, at 92 years.  Born & raised in East Boston, she came to live in Revere as a young girl & was an alumna of Revere High School, Class of 1938, with high honors.  She was invited to enroll at the prestigious New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, graduating with honors in piano.  For many, many years, she played privately for social gatherings, political functions, weddings, funerals, etc.  Rita had the personality of a true entertainer, vivacious, attractive, & out-going.  While at the New England Conservatory of Music, she worked for the former rather upscale Thompson’s Spa of the Back Bay, where she met many celebrities & politicians.  She was the Head Hostess there, and at the Boston To New York Railroad, Executive Dining Car.  Her music career was close to her heart & in spite of failing health for over 17 years, she played the piano almost daily.  She was a past member of the Ladies Emblem Club of the Revere Elks #1171, and also a former organizer for the Endicott “Chub” Peabody campaign.  She had an affection for the ocean and her local beach, Pebble Beach a.k.a. Rocky Beach in Beachmont, which lead to her being an instrumental figure in the fight to keep the beach open to local residents.  She was the widow of Revere Police Sergeant Edward B. Leach, who passed in September of 1966.  She is the cherished mother of: Katherine C. “Cindy” Leach of Winthrop, her devoted caregiver for the past 17 years, Candace L. “Candy” Pioppi & her husband Frank C. Pioppi of Winthrop, Kevin & Daniel Leach of Boston, & the late Attorney Edward J. Leach, who was also a former Revere Patrolman.  She is the devoted Grandmother to: Jason E. Leach of Reading, Edward G. Leach of Georgetown, & Justin F. & James E. Pioppi both of Winthrop.  She was the Sister to the late: Dr. Denis O’Reilly, Charles O’Reilly, & Eileen Gibbon.  She was the Dear Aunt of: Faith O’Reilly of France, Gerard Gibbon of England, Paul O’Reilly & his wife Linda, Denise Hurley & her husband Owen, all of Salem, New Hampshire, & Michael O’Reilly of Revere.  Interment will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Cemetery, West Peabody.  Although she spent most of her life in Revere, she spent the last 12 years in Winthrop.  Remembrances may be made to your favorite charity.
