Barbara J. Saroka

Family & friends are invited to visit with the family in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107), Revere on Wednesday, January 2nd, 2013 beginning at 9 a.m., for Barbara J. Saroka, who died on Saturday, December 29th, 2012 at the Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home, Chelsea, following a long illness, at 83 years.  The funeral will be conducted from the funeral home with a funeral service at 11 a.m., following by interment in Woodlawn Cemetery.  Miss Saroka was born in Lynn, raised in Revere & lived in Waltham for over 30 years, & then moved to Middleton.  She worked for over 30 years, for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, as a switchboard operator, serving most of her career at the former Middlesex Hospital of Waltham.  Upon retiring in 1994, she moved back to Revere where she resided until her death.  She was the  beloved daughter of the late Joseph & Catherine (Lankiewicz) Saroka, & the dear sister of the late, Dorothy A. “Dolly” Terenzio, Gertrude McGovern, Blanche Silver, Helen Marino, Rita Signore, Stella Brunnell & Stanley Saroka.  She is the Cherished Aunt of Barbara A. Iovine, Dennis J. Terenzio, Debra J. Terenzio & Diane L. Terenzio-Spagnuolo & her husband, Lawrence, all of Revere, & the late Don M. Terenzio.  She is also lovingly survived by several grand-nieces & grand-nephews.

John Lovetere, Jr.

Family & friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, December 27th, 2012 from 4 – 8 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Rt. 107), Revere, for John Lovetere, Jr., who died at his Revere residence on Friday, December 21st, following a long battle with renal disease, at 83 years.  A funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Friday, December 28th at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in the Immaculate Conception Church (corner of Beach St. & Winthrop Ave.), Revere at 10:30 a.m.  Mr. Lovetere was born & raised in East Boston, & was also educated in Boston schools.  He entered the United States Army in July of 1946 & served until January of 1948.  Most of his life was engaged in auto mechanics.  He co-owned & operated his own gas station in Winthrop, known as “Angelo’s Gulf Station” on Pauline St., Winthrop, with his brother, “Angelo,” who died several years ago.  He also had a long association with “Andy’s Gas Station” of Revere, on Broadway.  At age 59 years, in 1988, he began a new career with the Food & Drug Administration, in their Winchester office, as a sample custodian.  Only because of poor health, did he retire at age 80 years. He is the adored husband of 60 years to Audrey E. (Fogarty).  He is the Devoted father of; Elizabeth A. Pesce & Joyce J. Misci & her husband, John, all of Revere.  He is the Cherished Grandfather of: Melyssa J. Perkins & her husband Jamie of West Peabody, Bryan A. Misci & his wife Kim of Lynn, Krystin L. Misci, Adam M. Misci, & Tyla Elizabeth Pesce, all of Revere.  He is the dear brother of: Joseph Lovetere & his wife Rose of Brockton, Francis Lovetere & his wife Joanne, Charles Lovetere & his wife Charlene, James Lovetere & Nicky, & Thomas Lovetere & his wife, Donna, all of Florida, & the late Angelo Lovetere.  He is also lovingly survived by his Sister-in-law, Linda Lovetere of FL, many nieces, nephews, Grand-nieces & Grand-nephews.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to your favorite charity.  Interment is private.

Phyllis M. (Frederico) Erickson

A funeral mass was celebrated on Christmas Eve morning, December 24th, for Phyllis M. (Frederico) Erickson died on Friday, Dec. 21st, following a long illness battling ovarian cancer, at Kaplan Family Hospice of Danvers.  Born & raised in East Boston, Phyllis was a 1953 alumna of East Boston High School.  She is the daughter of the late: Joseph S. Frederico & Esther (Schiavo) Frederico.  She is the wife of the late: William F. Erickson who died October 2004, She is the devoted mother of: Esta A. Panora of East Boston and Steven E, Panora & his wife Carol of Malden and dear sister of Connie Surrette of Beverly.  She is the cherished grandmother  of Stepahnie Panora & Jaimie Goad.  She is also lovingly survived by Jennifer Hovey and her husband Phillip of Andover, CT.  Her great grandson Vincent and her long time devoted friend Albano Tassinari of East Boston & several nieces and nephews and caring friends.  Interment will be held privately in the spring.  Remembrances may be made to the: Hospice of the North Shore & Greater Boston, 75  Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923.

Henry W. Corbelle

Family & friends are invited to visiting hours on Friday, December 21st, 2012 from 4 – 8 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107), Revere, for Henry W. Corbelle, who died at his Revere residence on Wednesday, December 19th, following a long illness, at 85 years.  Born, raised & educated in Revere, he was a life-long resident.  He entered the United States Navy in February of 1944 & served until May of 1946.  He was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, the American Theatre Medal, & was awarded 4 bronze stars, for his time in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre & their medal.  He was also awarded 2 bronze stars for time serving in the Philippine Liberation & their medal.  He was a 60-year member of the International Brotherhood of Carpenters, Local #56.  He retired at age 62.  He was the essence of a “family man” – always concerned with the care & providing well for his wife, six children, & fourteen grandchildren.  Henry was a remarkable gardener & landscaper, enjoying his childhood home & land.  He is the beloved husband of 59 years to, Lesley I. (McMurchy) Corbelle.  He is the Cherished father of: Donald W. Corbelle & his wife Deborah of Revere, Carleen L. Falzone & her husband Mark of Boxford, Michael A. Corbelle & his wife Carol of Byfield, Eileen M. Doyle & her husband Wayne J., Ralph A. Corbelle & his wife Laureen, & Christopher C. Corbelle, all of Revere.  He was the brother of the late, Ralph A. “Bud” Corbelle & Caroline Swaine.  He is also lovingly survived by his fourteen Grandchildren.  His funeral service will be held in the Funeral Home on Saturday, December 22nd at 10 a.m., followed by interment in Puritan Lawn Memorial Cemetery, West Peabody.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Jude Childrens’ Research Hospital, P.O. Donna Marie (Sledzinski) Perretti

Family & friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday, December 19th, 2012 from 4 – 8 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107), Revere, for Donna Marie (Sledzinski) Perretti, who died at her York, Maine home on Sunday, December 16th following a long illness.  With the first Christmas snow falling & her family surrounding her with love, Donna peacefully walked into the Kingdom of Heaven at age 69.  Donna was born in Chelsea, lived in Revere until she was a young woman, & was a 1961 alumna of Revere High School.  For many years, she worked as a clerk-typist for the Department of Massachusetts Revenue in Chelsea until retirement.  She was a long-time resident of Everett & an avid supporter & volunteer for the “Everett Huskies.”  She was a long-time summer resident of York, ME & spent all of her time between her home in Everett & York.  Her funeral service will be conducted in the Funeral Home on Thursday, December 20th at 10 a.m., followed by interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.  She is survived by her loving & devoted husband of 50 years, Carl D. Perretti.  Donna’s spirit lives on through Carl’s life.  She is the Cherished Mother to: Everett Firefighter, Derek C. Perretti & his wife Brenda of Cape Neddick, ME, & Dale T. Perretti & his wife Lois of Revere.  She is the adoring Grandmother of Rory D. & Dierk Perretti.  She is the Dear Sister-in-law to: Dorothy Hearn & husband Donald, Danielle Brogna & her husband Robert, all of Florida.  She also leaves her aunts, Mary Hanson of Florida, Marilyn Carroll & Rita Kehoe & her husband Joseph all of Revere.  Embracing her at the Gates of Heaven were her late son, David T. Perretti, her late Parents, Isabel M. Barbara J. (Ginnetti) Rotman

A Memorial Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 22nd, 2012 at 12 Noon at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Revere, for Barbara J. (Ginnetti) Rotman, who died at her Revere home on Saturday, December 15th following a long battle with cancer, at 63 years.  Born in Boston, she was a 1967 alumna of Revere High School.  She worked within the Revere School system for over 20 years & until last May she was secretary at the Paul Revere School, for many years.  Barbara was a devoted Mother, Daughter, Wife & an adoring Grandmother, who gave her life & energy to her family & their needs, first & foremost.  Her late husband, Alan B. Rotman, died in February of 1995.  She is the cherished mother of, Melissa E. Ruggiero & her husband Joseph E. Ruggiero, Jr. & Matthew S. Rotman, all of Revere.  She is the adoring Grandmother of Samantha F. & Rebecca A. Ruggiero, also of Revere.  She is also lovingly survived by her faithful & devoted companion, Richard M. Kelleher of Revere, & several Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, & Godchildren.  She was the beloved daughter of the late, Spartaco “Sparky” Ginnetti & Ann M. Anthony F. Maggio

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, December 16th, 2012 from 4 – 8 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107), Revere, for Anthony F. Maggio, who died on Wednesday evening, December 12th at his Revere home, following a long battle with renal disease, at 79 years.  His funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Monday, December 17th, at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Revere at 10 a.m.  Born & raised in Everett, he was a 1951 alumnus of the Everett Vocational School.  His early working career was a Master Plumber.  Soon he began his own business, “Maggio’s Plumbing” of Revere & maintained that business well into his early seventies.  In 1972, he opened “Maggio’s Restaurant” & then in October of 1984, he bought Bayside Restaurant, across from Northgate Shopping Mall on Squire Rd., & sold the restaurant in December of 1996.  Anthony expanded the “old” Bayside & did extensive renovation & made changes to the existing building to raise it to one of the “better” dining spots in Revere.  The restaurant was indeed a “family affair,” with his faithful & devoted wife, Elaine A. (Cotugno) serving as his partner, hostess, & administrative manager.  His two sons, Mark & Darren, after completing Culinary School, cooked at the restaurant until its closing in December of 1996.  He also served with the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict from February of 1953 until August of 1960.  Besides his devoted wife of 52 years, Elaine A. (Cotugno), he is the beloved Father of, Mark A. Maggio & his wife Susan of Malden, & Darren F. Maggio & his wife Tracey of Stoughton.  He is the Cherished Grandfather of, Ashley M., Brittany M., & Mathew M. Maggio all of Malden, Christopher A., Darren James, Jonathan Paul & Nicholas F. Maggio all of Revere, & Elizabeth S. Sloane of Stoughton.  He is the Dear Brother of, Frances DeAngelis of Arlington, Mary Perrotta & her husband Thomas of Waltham, & the late James Maggio.  He is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews & cousins.  Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.  Anthony was a member of the American Legion Post #61 of Revere.

Schena, who died unexpectedly at his Revere home on Monday, December 3rd, at 49 years.  The funeral service will follow the visiting hours at 8:15 p.m.  Andrew was born in Everett, & lived his entire life in Revere, graduating from Revere High School, Class of 1981.  Most of his working career was with the International Union of Laborers of North America, Local #22.  He was the beloved son of the late Anthony & Ann (Fanara) Schena, who were the founders of “The Banana Boat” in 1971, one of the last operating concession stands at Revere Beach.  The concession is still family run & owned.  Andrew spent many a hot summer at the concession, with his Mom, Dad, brother & sisters.  He is the devoted father of Andre Dallesandro of Saugus.  He is the cherished brother of: Anthony Schena, Jr. & his wife Sharon of Plymouth, Avri A. Schena of Revere & Amora A. Schena-Callahan & her husband, Revere Police Sergeant Charles “Chuckie” Callahan of West Peabody.  He is also lovingly survived by 2 nephews, 2 nieces, & several grand-nieces & grand-nephews.  He is the beloved nephew of Robert Fanara & his wife Maureen of Saugus.  Interment is private.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701-9376.

Rose (Gullifa) Cerabone

Services & interment have been held for Rose (Gullifa) Cerabone, who died on Sunday, December 2nd, 2012 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Medford, following a long illness, at 94 years.  Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.  Born in Boston, she lived in Medford, before moving to Revere over sixty years ago.  For several years, she served as a Lunch Mother at the Whelan School in Revere.  She was most popular with the children she served, as she certainly went far above her duties.  She treated all the children as her own & was certainly loved by many.  Both she & her late husband, Michael J. Cerabone, were avid dancers & socializers, especially patronizing the “Wonderland Ballroom.”  She is the beloved mother of, Robert M. Cerabone & his wife Elaine E. of Winchester, & Leonard J. Cerabone & his wife Linda of Hallandale Beach, FL.  She is the Cherished Grandmother of: Vickie Stagliola & her husband Mark of Billerica, Leonard Cerabone of East Boston, & Roy V. Lillian M. Polcari

Family & friends are invited to attend a funeral mass on Wednesday, December 5th, 2012 in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Revere at 11 a.m., for Lillian M. Polcari, who died on Saturday, December 1st at her Point of Pines Revere home, following a brief illness, at 96 years.  Born & raised in Boston’s North End, she was an alumna of Emmanuel College, Class of 1939, & Leslie College, Class of 1945.  Her parents were born in Italy, came to this country with their parents in the late 1890’s, & settled in Boston’s predominantly Jewish & Italian immigrant communities.  In 1925, her parents, Annibale & Angelina (Vara) Polcari, opened their restaurant in the heart of Boston’s North End.  They moved to their premier location, in 1979, at 74 East India St., Boston, until they closed their doors in 1983.  In 1968, when Annibale died, Lillian’s two brothers, Louis & Charles A. Polcari, took over total management of the restaurant.  For many years, she acted as Bookkeeper & Custodian of Records.  Before & during her restaurant career, Lillian was Chief Laboratory Technician for several Boston doctors in private practice.  In the 1960’s & 1970’s, she was a substitute teacher for the City of Revere, usually serving at the Whelan School.  “Stella’s Restuarant” was a Mecca for all of the Categories of Who’s Who in America for over 60 years.  Personality celebrities of all social, educational, clerical, political, & infamous background were hosted there to the finest in Italian dining with impeccable presentations & courtesies.  And a remarkable accommodation was always accorded to old family friends & neighbors, as well as those of the “rich & famous.”  The Kennedy Family, especially Jack & Jacqueline, & their entire entourage often frequented the Boston eatery.  Movie, television, & radio personalities were long-time patrons, from Frank Sinatra, Tony Martin, Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis, Martha Raye, Bette Davis, Red Skellton, Danny Thomas, Gina Lolabrigidia, Eve Arden, The Goldberg Family & many, many more.  Politicians, their wives & escorts, composers & conductors, the very rich & the very “not so rich,” came to meet at “Stella’s.”  “Stella’s” was also legend to its decor of Italian & Greek Art & Sculpture that graced its space.  Lillian’s life, or much of it, was centered at the core of the restaurant, where she maintained a presence until its closing.  Her brother, Charles A. Polcari, died in August of 2001 & her brother, Louis Polcari, died in December of 2000.  She is the Devoted Aunt of: Louis C. Polcari & his wife Joanne of Weymouth, Angela M. Ventola & her husband Robert, & Marie C. Polcari, all of Salem, MA.  She is also lovingly survived by her sister-in-law, Gloria M. Polcari of Point of Pines, Revere. Interment will be in the Family Estate Lot of Forest Hills Cemetery, Boston, MA.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Italian Home for Children, 1125 Centre St., Jamaica Plain, MA 02130.
