David E. Mellen, Sr.

Family & friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service on Wednesday, February 22nd at 11:00 a.m., in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Rte. 107), REVERE, for David E. Mellen, Sr., who passed unexpectedly on Thursday, February 16th at Boston’s Mass. General Hospital. His visiting hours will be conducted in the funeral home on Tuesday, February 21st from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Born & raised in Somerville, he resided there until moving to Revere in 1982. He was an alumnus of Somerville High School, Class of 1968. He entered the U.S. Navy in March of 1971 & served on the U.S.S. Fulton as a Machinists Mate 2nd class during the Viet-Nam Era. For over 20 years, he has been employed as an operation mechanic for Eversource. He was a proud and active member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local #369. He was also a former member of the Masons.

He is the cherished father to Rachael L. Mellen, David E. Mellen, II & Timothy F. Mellen, all of Revere. He was the beloved son of the late Hugh F. Mellen & Mildred (Waddington) Mellen of Somerville. Interment will follow at the Mass. National VA Cemetery, Bourne.

John T. “Jackie” McCarthy

Family & friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, February 16th from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Rte. 107), REVERE, for John T. McCarthy, who passed on Saturday, February 11th at his Chelsea Admiral’s Hill residence, following a ten year well fought battle with metastatic carcinoma. His Funeral Service will be conducted immediately following the visitation in the funeral home at 11:15 a.m. All services will conclude with entombment at Holy Cross Community Mausoleum, Malden.

Born & raised in Revere, he attended Revere High school & was a member of the graduating class of 1950. All of his life was spent as a senior bartender within the circle of high-end supper clubs & lounges in downtown Boston, Gloucester & Florida. He formally retired in 2003. John had a passion for the “good-life”, particularly, fine food, and wines, dapper clothes & adventurous traveling. He owned a large & wonderful personality. He enjoyed many long-time friendships & relationships, throughout his 84 years.

He was the beloved son of the late Thomas J. & Lillian M. (Burns) McCarthy. He was the adored brother to Marilyn M. Melone. He is the devoted uncle of Judy H. Rizzo & her husband David of Peabody, Kathleen Angelini & her husband Gary & Shawn Cook & her husband Michael, all of Revere. He is also lovingly survived by four grand-nephews, Jason D. Rizzo of Peabody, Nicholas D. Rizzo & his wife, Sarah of Wilmington, Michael Cook & his girlfriendColleen of Lynn & Matthew Cook of Revere.

Gary A. Simons

Simons, who died following a lengthy illness at the Kaplan Family Hispice House, Danvers on Friday, February 10th. His Funeral Service will be conducted at 7:15 p.m. in the Funeral Horne. Interment will be held privately.

Born & raised in Malden, he attended Malden schools and was an alumnus of Malden High School, Class of 1969. For over 30 years, he worked in the employ of the former, “DELA” Co. of Haverhill as their Plant Manager. He thoroughly enjoyed his position and time spent there and had many a friend that he maintained. However, his role as husband and father far surpassed his dedication and supreme life pleasures.

He is the beloved husband of 37 years to Sharon F. (Rautenberg) Simons. He is the cherished father of Cori A. Simons & her partner Sean Brinkley of Woburn & Sara P. Simons & her fiancee Joseph Mercurio of Lynn. He is the dear brother of Ruth Colman of Fall River, Barbara Rodrigues of Tewksbury, Jonathan Simons of Boston & the late Brian O’Hara & his late wife Marilyn. He is also lovingly survived by several nieces & nephews. Gary was also the son of the late William & Barbara Simons. He spent the majority of his younger life in Malden, moving to Revere, thirty years ago.

Ferraro, Yolanda M. “Viola” (Balzi) at 88 years, formerly of Revere, in Kingman, Az. on Feb. 8th, after a lengthy illness. “Viola” was born in Boston & able to attend school only to the eighth grade. At that time, she began working at a clothing manufacturing Co. sewing in sleeves & collars. She met Thomas Ferraro in 1948. They married in 1950 and had 66 loving years of marriage. They shared many good years at their summer cottage with their family and friends on Mousam lake in Acton, Maine. Her legacy is of a loving, caring & giving person; always taking care of others’ needs.

Viola is the cherished wife of Thomas and the mother of Susan M. (Crews) & her husband Robert of Kingman, AZ & Michael T. Ferraro & his wife Sandy of Somerville, MA. Adored grandmother of Michelle Bowes & her husband Christopher of Revere, Kristen Rogers of Haverhill, Mallory M. Ferraro of Somerville & Madison L. Ferraro of Manchester NH. Dear sister of Adele Sestito of Taunton, Anna Gangemi &her husband Peter of Sandwich, Louis Balzi & wife Nina of Sagamore Beach, MA & the late Phyllis Smeglin, Olga Lynch, Ida Piatelli, Jennie Dundon, Richard “Archie” Balzi, Josephine Karas, Margaret Alward & Doris Balzi. Mary F. (Palermo) Vangell

Family & friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Wednesday, February 15th at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 250 Revere St., Revere at 11:00 a.m. for Mary F. (Palermi) Vangell, who died on Wednesday, February 8th at the Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home, where she had been a resident for the past four years. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.

Born in Boston’s North End, she resided there until moving to Somerville over sixty (60) years ago. Mrs. Vangell was the wife of the late, Vasil C. Vangell, who passed on September 25,1969.

She is the cherished aunt to Annette M. Gentile of Revere. She is also lovingly survived by many other nieces, nephews, grand-nieces & grand-nephews. She was the daughter to the late Carmine & Angelina (Corsino) Palermo. She was devoted sister to the late, Peter, Salvatore “Sam”, Anthony “Butch”, and Angelo Palermo & the late Nancy Palermo, Carmella Coviello, Palmina Palermo & Lillian Puopolo. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett will complete the services.

Anthony “Icky” DiMonte

The funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Tuesday, February 14th, following the visitation, at 11 :15 a.m.

He lived in Revere for most of his life, before moving to Chelsea, over fifteen years ago. He spent most of his working career as a barber for several local shops in the area.

He was the beloved son of the late Angelo & Rosaria (Riccio) DiMonde. He is the devoted father to Melissa DiMonte of South Boston. He is the cherished brother to Jean Barrett of Norwood, Pasquale Dimonte of Seabrook, NH, Anna Rotondo of Saugus, Gloria M. Ferullo, Lena Spagnola & Rose Festa, all of Revere & the late Angelo & George DiMonte, Marie M. DiMonte, Margaret DiMonte & Antonetta Lea. He is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces & grand-nephews. Interment will be held privately.

Geraldine (Flynn) Scigliano

Geraldine (Flynn) Scigliano of Nahant, formerly of Revere, passed away peacefully at home Saturday with her loving husband Robert by her side. She is also survived by her daughter Joan Kitsis , her daughter in law Lisa Lambert. Also lovingly survived by Lisa Scigliano,  four Flynn brothers, Frank, Bill, Roddy, and Larry, one sister Marilyn Newhook as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Geri had many interests throughout her life. She excelled at virtually anything she set her mind to including ballroom dancing and instructing, knitting and crocheting, cooking and most especially baking. Her baked goods are legendary in the family. Geri had an outsized warm, loving, open and vivacious personality with a terrific sense of humor. Geri leaves us all with incredible, wonderful memories.

Alfred Giamattei

Family & friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours in the the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Rte. 107) REVERE, on Tuesday, February 7th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for Alfred Giamattei, who passed away on Friday, February 3rd after being stricken at his Revere and rushed to the Whidden Memorial Hospital. His funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Wednesday, February 8th at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 250 Revere St., Revere, at 10:00 a.m.

Born & raised in Revere, he attended Revere High School. He entered the U.S. Navy on October 15th, 1942 and served until February 16, 1946 as a Gunner’s Mate 3rd Class. He was most proud of his military service & would often regale his family & friends with stories of his adventures during WWII.  He would work for the Revere School System, as a school custodian for over 20 years, from 1967-1987.

He was the husband of the late Rose Marie (Alvino) Giamattei, who died in January of 1999. He is the devoted father of John L. Giamattei & his wife Nancy M. of Salem, MA and Joseph S. Giamattei of Revere, with whom Alfred made his home. He is the adoring grandfather to Christine M. Giamattei & her fiancee Nicholas Rubino of Wakefield & Julie Rose Giamattei of Boston’s Back Bay. He is also lovingly survived by his brothers-in-law, Robert & Charles Alvino, his faithful nephew, Carl “Butchie” Marino, all of Revere & many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces & grand-nephews. He was the dear brother of the late Anna Pacella, Margaret DelGrosso, Patsy, Armando & Joseph Giamattei. Interment will be with his beloved wife Rose Marie at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

Joseph R. Kehoe

Kehoe, who passed following a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s Disease. His funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Saturday, February 4th, at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in the  Immaculate Conception Church (Corner of Beach St.& Winthrop Ave.)Revere at 10:30 a.m.

Born & raised in Revere he was an alumnus of the Immaculate Conception High School, Class of 1950. Joe entered the U.S. Navy in June of 1952 & served until June of 1956, as a Radioman 3rd Class. His time with the military, during the Korean Conflict, was one of Joe’s most proud accomplishments. Joe’s career began & ended with Polaroid Corp., in Waltham, where he would work for 37 years, within the Human Resources- Personnel Division as a Senior Supervisor. He & his beloved late wife Rita L. (Quinlan) Kehoe, who passed on January 28, 2015, were devotees of the Immaculate Conception Parish Community serving on many of the social clubs within the elementary & high school of the Parish. He was a long-time usher at the Sunday & Saturday evening Masses. A gentleman’s gentleman was his mantra, as well as an overwhelming personality. He was an amateur comedic magician, especially enjoying performing for his grandchildren, great grandchildren & the neighborhood children. His quips were –no– are legendary and well-remembered. His hobbies were many and his interest in them, intense. He long-enjoyed bowling, playing bocci, softball, traveling and woodworking. Every year he and he wife, Rita would tackle a household project, working side by side until completion.

He is the cherished father of Joseph E. Kehoe & his wife Francesca M. of Upton, Ma., Cheryl A. Frye & her husband, Robert of Revere, Marie L. Kehoe & her companion, K.C. Cockrill of Natick, James M. Kehoe & his wife Doreen of Stoneham, Patricia E. Casey & her husband, William F. of Billerica and John R. Kehoe of Albuquerque, New Mexico. He is the dear brother of Marilyn Carroll of Revere. Joseph over the years, was predeceased by eight (8) brothers & five (5) sisters. He is also lovingly survived by twelve (12) grandchildren, four (4) great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces & grand-nephews. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.

Elaine J. (O’Donnell) Reardon

(O’Donnell) Reardon, who died unexpectedly on Monday, January 30th at the Cambridge Hospital, after being stricken at her Revere home.

Raised & schooled in Chelsea, she was an alumna of St. Rose High School of Chelsea, Class of 1958. She worked as a secretary for John Hancock Life Insurance Co., Boston for ten years. For over 31 years, she was a waitress & hostess at Reardon’s Restaurant in Revere until its closing in the late nineties.

She was the wife of the late Francis B.”Franny” Reardon, who died in August of 2012. She is the beloved mother of Gerald L. Styburski of Chelsea and the adored grandmother to Natalia M. Styburskl of Tewksbury. She is the dear sister to Cornelius W. O’Donnell & his wife Helen F. O’Donnell of Revere. She is the devoted aunt of Dr. Carolyn M. O’Donnell & her husband Jon J. Walker of Groton, MA and Timothy P. O’Donnell & his wife Milena of Revere, the late John P. “Jack P.” Reardon & his surviving wife Frances “Fran” of Lynn, Sheila A. Screnci of Saugus, Atty Michael H.
