Eugene A. Caponigro

Caponigro, who died on Saturday, December 17th, following a lengthy illness at the Jeanne Jugan Nursing Home (Little Sisters of the Poor) in Somerville. Mr. Caponigro’s funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Thursday, December 22nd, at 9:00 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 250 Revere St., Revere at 10:00 a.m.
Eugene’s parents immigrated from Campagna, Italy in the Salerno region and he was born & raised in East Boston. He was a 1942 alumnus of East Boston High School. Shortly after graduating in February of 1945 he joined the U.S. Army during WWII and served until February of 1947 as Corporal. He began a career with the US Postal Service in late 1947, as a letter carrier, in the Downtown Boston area & then the Everett area. He retired in 1989, after 42 years of service. A dashingly handsome gentleman, he would marry the beautiful Margaret “Margie” (Bagley). They had (3) three devoted and adoring sons. The couple lived in East Boston for several years, before moving to Swampscott. He later would live in Revere for over 20 years. Mr. Caponigro was a long-time member of the DAV & The Lynn Italian-American Citizens’ Club.
He is the devoted father to Philip A. Caponigro of Essex,Ma., Joseph S. Caponigro & his wife, Kelly & Carlo E. Caponigro & his wife, Francesca all of Swampscott. He is the Proud grandfather of Joseph M. Caponigro & his wife, Brittany of Swampscott, Katelyn Caponigro & her fiancee, Andrew Gillis of Laguna, Cailf., Gina M.& Natalie A. Caponigro both of Essex, Ma., Jaymie & John-Joseph Caponigro both of Swampscott. Also lovingly survived by his great-grandson, Joseph Carlo Caponigro, his former wife, Margaret “Margie” (Bagley) Caponigro-Chiaraluce of Lynn & Many nieces, nephews, grand-nephews & grand-nieces. He is the Dear brother to Paul S. Caponigro of Revere & the late, Aida “Ida” Caponigro, Joseph, Americo, & Liberto Caponigro & Robert Cappy. The family find it almost impossible to express their immense gratitude to the Little Sisters of the Poor & their extraordinary staff, for the care & attention rendered Eugene. Interment will be in the family lot at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

Stephen T. “Steve” Paone

His funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Monday, December 19th at 9:30a.m., followed by a funeral mass in the Immaculate Conception Church (Corner of Beach St. & Winthrop Ave.) REVERE at 10:30 a.m.
Born in Everett, he was raised & educated in Revere, graduated from Immaculate Conception Grammar School in 1963 and was a 1967 alumnus of St. Domenic Savio High School of East Boston. He continued his education majoring in mathematics & minoring in philosophy, at Boston College & received his Bachelor’s Degree in 1971. Later he returned to university at Boston University where he was awarded a Master’s Degree in Social Work in 1977. After working for several years, in social work, he entered the Maryknoll Missionary Brothers and Fathers serving in the most remote areas in South & Latin America. A life-threatening illness, abruptly ended his work there & he returned to recuperate in Boston. He had a 5 year career at Walter Fernald School as a counselor & assistant case manager. He worked for nine years for the Eliot Community Services as a coordinator within the Lawrence Division. His recent bout with metastatic disease demanded his resignation from Eliot. From his youth as a C.C.D. Teacher in his home parish of Immaculate Conception, Steve had a definite draw to the religious life and beyond that, giving and doing for others, especially the downtrodden and disenfranchised. Always active in parish ministries, Steve was a member of the Men’s Group at St. Thomas of Villanova – St. Dorothy Parishes, where he had many faithful and close friends. Stephen came to live in Wilmington, about ten years ago.
He was the beloved son of the late Charles P. “Chick” Paone & Lorraine A. (Godfrey) Paone. He is the cherished brother to Charles P. “Chuck” Paone, Jr. & his wife, Lani of Windham, N.H. & Therese P. Cox & her husband, Terrence G. Cox of Lynnfield. He is the devoted uncle to Charles P. “Chip” Paone, III and his fiancee Christine Michelson, Jonathan T. Paone & his wife, Sarah & Stephanie M. Paone, all of NH & his godson & nephew, Trevor T. Cox of Lynnfield. He is also lovingly survived by 4 grand-nephews, John-Henry, Justin, Jake, & Jason and 3 grand-nieces, Jenna, Hailey & Katie. Many faithful and dedicated cousins also survive Steve. Interment will be held privately at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

Gene A. “Geno” Vadala

His funeral will follow the visitation from the funeral home on Tuesday, with a funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church (corner of Beach St. & Winthrop Ave.), REVERE, followed by interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
Born & raised in Boston’s North End, he was schooled there and settled there with his beloved wife, Marie “Chickie” (Arigo) Vadala, with whom he shared fifty years of marriage and who passed in Sept. of 2000. The couple left the North End in 1967 and moved to Revere where they spent the remainder of their lives. Geno was most proud to have served for 34 years, with the US Postal Service at the GPO of the U.S. Post Office in Post Office Sq., Boston, as letter carrier.
Geno is the cherished father of Mark J. Vadala of Saugus, Gene Vadala & his wife, Erin of Rowley, Thomas J. Vadala of Marblehead & Sandra M. Chesna & her husband, John of Revere. He is the devoted Grandfather of Owen Vadala of Rowley, Dominic & Thomas Chesna, both of Revere. He is the dear brother of Santa Zagami of Watertown & the late John Vadala. He is also lovingly survived by his adoring niece, Victoria Zagami of Watertown and cousin, Marie Serino of Revere. He shared a most tender relationship with his canine companion “Toby”.

John J. Tankevich, Jr.

Tankevich, Jr. who died following a long illness at his Saugus residence on Wednesday, December 7th. Mr. Tankevich was born, raised & educated in South Peabody, Ma. He attended Peabody schools & was a 1956 alumnus of Peabody High School. He entered the Air Force in September of 1956 & served until September of 1960. He fulfilled his military obligation with the Air Force Reserves in September of 1962, retiring with the rank of Master Sgt. After receiving his degree from Northeastern University, in advanced computer science, he married married Patricia A. (Sweeney) of Revere and the couple settled in Everett for five & half years before moving to Saugus in 1976. He entered the work force force via the Commonwealth of Massachusetts within the Division of Finance at the State House in Boston. He held that position from 1966 thru retirement in 2004. John was a long-time member of the Elks Lodge #2071 of Billerica.
He is the beloved husband of 46 years to Patricia A. (Sweeney) Tankevich. He is the devoted Father of Tracie A. Tankevich & her companion, Richard A. Heald of Newfield, Maine, Tricia L. DiDomenico & her husband, State Senator Sal DiDomenico of Everett, and Jaclyn M. McPherson & her husband, Dustin S. of Derry, NH. He is the cherished grandfather of Matthew S. & Sal J.DiDomenico & Jonathan P.& Jaxson C. McPherson. He is the dear brother of Richard L. Tankevich of Kalispell, Montana (Mt) & the late Ronald & Florence Tankevich. He is the outstanding uncle to David Roseman & his wife, Julie of White Plains, NY, Katherine R. Born & raised in Boston’s North End, she lived in Revere, Everett, Hollbrook & Methuen. Four years ago, she moved to her daughter’s Beverly home. Anna had many jobs in her working career & did spend over 15 years at the former McCord & Winn Inc. of Woburn as an assembler. Later, she would work for the Dunkin’ Donuts Franchise in the Woburn area.
She is the wife of the late Robert W. Carroll and the beloved mother of Gina Ellis of Beverly, Charles W. Self & his wife Dawn of Lynn, Paul J. Self of Arizona, Angelo G. Self of Methuen & the late Mark S. Self. She is the dear sister of Dominic Gioia of Malden & the late Paul, Salvatore, Anthony, Frank A., Joseph & Angelo B. Gioia. She is the cherished Grandmother of Amanda Marie Hannon of Malden, Daniel Robert Ellis, Adam Richard Ellis & Marianna Theresa Ellis, all of Beverly. She is also lovingly survived by her daughter-in-law, Linda Self of Florida, 11 (eleven) other grandchildren & two (2) great-granddaughters. Interment will be held privately.

He was born in San Fernando, Argentina, although the family’s roots were in Italy. As a result of the political & social unrest in Italy during the early–mid nineteen thirties, the family re-located to Argentina. In 1964, Joseph came to the USA, settling in Hyde Park for two years & then in 1966, moved to Revere. He & his wife Maria E. (Quillay) Mangano, remained in Revere until 2006, when they moved to Georgetown to be closer to their children on the North Shore. For many years and until retirement, Joseph worked, first for American Airlines until their closing and then moved onto United Airlines. He worked for United as their Supervisor of Food Service for over 20 years until he retired.
He is the beloved husband of Maria E. (Quillay) Mangano of Georgetown. He is the cherished father of Nancy M. DeMarco & her husband, James L. of Ipswich, Richard J. Mangano & his wife, Dina of Georgetown & Elizabeth M. Heath & her husband Marc C. of West Peabody. He is the devoted grandfather of James L. DeMarco of Boston, Marc C. Heath of Peabody, Max J. Mangano & his wife, Coley of Watertown, Paige M. DeMarco of Ipswich, Briana A. Heath of Peabody, Joseph R., Anabella M. & Nico A. Mangano, all of Georgetown.

Born in Boston, he spent most of his life in East Boston & was a 1975 alumnus of East Boston High School & a graduate of the Boston School of Hair Fashion in Boston. The family left East Boston and came to live in Revere in 1970. Peter worked at local shops in the early part of his career. He opened his own shop on Broadway, Revere “Peter’s Back Hair” in September 1976 & remained there until 2008, when serious illness re-visited him. Peter always maintained one of the most meticulously cared for hair salons in the North Shore Area. Every season demanded total window recreations as well as the entire interior, however, Peter’s passion was Christmas, not only for the decorations & the music, but for his infamous “Holiday Parties”, that never ended. Long, will many of us remember with joy and tears, his welcoming and genuine spirit.
He was the son of the late Carmine J. & Gloria J. (Panto) Stornaiuolo. He is the cherished brother of Jeannette L. Rysinger & her late husband George F. of Brockton, Carmen J. Storniauolo, III & his wife, Jean of Revere & Joseph L. Stornaiuolo of Revere. He is the beloved uncle to John F. Rysinger of Malden, Laura M. Rysinger of Brockton, Jeanal Storniuolo of Revere & Carmen J.”CJ” Stornaiuolo of Charestown, Virginia. He is also loving survived by his faithful best friend, Cheryl Abric-Mei of Lynn, several aunts, uncles & many devoted cousins. Interment will be held privately in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

Kathryn Olivia Haggerty was loved from the first moment of her existence by her mother and father, Lisa and Paul. She was a beautiful baby, adored by Auntie Jen and Uncle Brian, and by Mae and Poppy; by Nana and all the Haggerty aunts, uncles and cousins. Later she found joy in her sister, Beth, and her cousins Andrew and Aiden, who lost their precious Katie too soon. Katie was kind and sweet. She enjoyed the absurd and could be funny and goofy with her friends. Often she would text “mumma” silly things she found on the internet. She enjoyed going on weekend adventures with her dad. Katie was tall and beautiful, a graceful free spirit. She taught herself to hoop and enjoyed showing off her skills. Her mother will always remember the peaceful expression on her face as she twirled her hoops around herself, turning and moving, happy. She loved, among many things, Shiba Inu dogs; her cat, Kit, whom she adopted from a rescue shelter; music festivals; Harry Potter; her collection of boots; binging shows on Netflix; all kinds of music; using social media; and spending time with her boyfriend, Peter Mirata, and her best friends, Denisha Johnson and Matt Grant. She graduated in 2014 from Northeast Metro Tech in Wakefield.
“Katie” is the adored daughter of Lisa M. Stefano of Tewksbury, formerly of Winthrop & Paul F. Haggerty of Methuen, formerly of Somerville. She is the cherished sister of Elizabeth Mae “Beth” Haggerty of Tewksbury and the devoted granddaughter of Frederick & Mary Stefano of Winthrop & the late Eleanor & Roger Haggerty. She is the sweet & gentle godchild & niece to Jennifer S. & Brian T. Becker of Pelham, N.H. & James O’Leary of Sharon, MA. She is also lovingly survived by her cousins, Andrew J. & Aiden F. Born in Somerville, he was raised and educated in Medford, graduating from Medford High School in 1956. In August of 1961, he entered in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era and was honorably discharged on October 23, 1962 as a PVT, E-2. Mr Lewis began his 25 year career General Electric of Lynn as an Aircraft Parts Inspector. Due to declining health, he was forced to accept a position within the Maintenance Division at G.E. to complete his twenty-five year career.
He is the beloved husband of 44 years Suzanne A. (Mathews) Lewis. They settled in Revere in October of 1973, after their marriage. He is the devoted father of Daniel J. Lewis of Revere & Edward J. Lewis and his wife Daniela of Woburn. He is the cherished grandfather of Erin A. and Matthew C. Lewis, both of Revere and had the anticipated joy of expecting his third grandchild in January 2017. He is the dear brother of Rose Baiardi and Terry Micelli, both of Marshfield. He is also the loving brother-in-law of Edward J. Mathews of Stoneham, Robert J. Mathews of Gilford, NH & Richard T. Mathews of Lynnfield. He is also lovingly survived by several nieces and nephews. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

He was the son of the late George & Sabatina”Sally” (Rella) Caponigro. He is the cherished brother of George Caponigro Jr. & his wife, Julie of Canton, Georgia & the late Richard J. Caponigro. He is the beloved nephew of Ann M. Gallucci & her late husband, Victor of Derry, N.H., Sabino Rella & his wife Judith of San Diego, Calif. & Louis Rella of Winthrop. He is the devoted uncle to Ann Marie Tinkham & her husband, Gerald A. of Salisbury, Ma., James J.Caponigro of Newburyport, R. Michael Caponigro & his wife, Danielle of Newburyport, Christine Cantrell & her husband, Jeff of Canton, Georgia, Sarah Williams of Woodstock, Georgia, Nicholas, Alexander & Gregory Caponigro, all of Amesbury, Ma.
