McCullough, & moved to Lynn where she remained until her death.  Mr. McCullough died on December 4, 2006.  For over 20 years, she worked with the Salvation Army Store of Boston as store manager & supervisor.  She also traveled to other Salvation Army stores in the area, instituting programs for organization inventory in-take, etc.  Muriel had her own private ministry: packing, & delivering food “Meals on wheels” to the elderly & disenfranchised.  She continued being active until two years ago.  She is the cherished mother of Deborah A. Charles P. Zucco

Family & friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday, August 1st, 2012 from 4 – 8 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107), Revere, for Charles P. Zucco, “Charlie the Barber,” who died on Sunday, July 29th at Epoch of Melrose, following a long illness, at 74 years.  His funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Thursday, August 2nd at 11 a.m., followed by the funeral service in the funeral home at 12 Noon.  Charlie was born & raised in East Boston, attended East Boston schools & was a 1958 alumnus of East Boston High School.  He went on to graduate from New England School of Barbering in June of 1961.  From October of 1961 through August of 1962, he served with the United States Air Force, during the Viet-Nam era.  He continued his Air National Guard Service through 1968.  Early in his career, he was head barber & stylist for the former City-Mart Department Store in Downtown Boston.  In 1964, he opened his Barber Shop at the Orient Heights Square location on Bennington St., where he remained for 48 years, until retiring in May of 2011 due to failing health.  Charlie’s parents, the late Peter & Grace (Crisafulli) Zucco, were the founders & proprietors of “Gracie’s Bakery,” on the Orient Heights-Winthrop Bridge, only yards away from where would one day be home to their son’s barber shop, “Charlie’s Barber Shop,” for over 48 years.  As a young boy and all through high school, Charlie & his siblings worked in the “Bakery” after school, on weekends, during school vacations, etc.  Over the years, his parents & siblings, & particularly Charlie, developed “Bakers’ Lung Disease” from the flour dust & coal dust which fueled the ovens.  Little did any of the medical community, at that time, put much credence in the long-standing effects of working within those conditions.  Charlie’s shop was the hub of all things, newsy & social.  Charlie became a mentor to many, certainly a friend to many of the elderly clients he served, often serving them at their homes or in nursing facilities, refusing any monetary renumeration.  Charlie leaves his beloved wife of 45 years, Margaret “Peggy” (Pedersen).  After living in Orient Heights, East Boston, they moved to Melrose in 1975, where they remained.  He is the devoted Father of Lisa M. Pirelli & her husband Edward J., Jr. of Melrose, & Peter L. Zucco & his partner Paul J. Reardon of South Boston.  He is the Dear brother to: Julia “Sis” Bidmead & her husband Warren T. of San Ramon, California, & the late Dr. Angelo J. “Sonny” Zucco.  He is also survived by his many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, & cousins.  He is especially survived by his two canine “Grandsons,” Max & Tucker, who brought him much joy & comfort over the past 8 years.  Interment will be private.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Hallmark Health Hospice & VNA Inc., 178 Savin St., Malden, MA 02148.
