Anthony F. Garro

Family & friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours on Tuesday, October 15th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Vertuccio and Smith, Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Rt. 107) REVERE for Anthony F. Garro, who passed away on October 12th in the presence of his loving God & his devoted family at the Leonard Florence Center for Living in Chelsea. He was in his 96th year. His funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Wednesday, October 16th at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass in the Immaculate Conception Church (Corner of Beach St. & Winthrop Ave.) REVERE at 10:30 a.m. and immediately followed with entombment in the Sheffield Community Mausoleum at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

Born & raised in Boston, Mr. Garro was an alumnus of Boston English High School, Class of 1942. For most of his working career, Mr. Garro was in the employ of the Federal Government, specifically for the Internal Revenue Service, serving as an account manager. Mr. Garro moved to Revere, when he married Mildred (DiSessa) Garro. She passed on April 24, 2000. Anthony remained in Revere until his passing. As an active member of the Revere Senior Center, he was most interested in their bowling & bocce tournaments. Family & friends will long remember him as a dedicated family man for his various roles in family structure and as a faithful & dedicated Husband, Dad & Grandfather. His fine personality & his integrity are unchallenged.

He is the beloved husband of the late Mildred (DiSessa) Garro. Cherished father of Maria J. Reisman & husband Robert S. of Needham, Christina J. Brownell & husband Mark P. of Belchertown, Camille J. Garro & her partner Dennis M. LaMalfa of Newburyport & Gina J. Garro & husband Brian S. Duplisea of Somerville. Devoted grandfather of Marissa G. Semprucci & husband Michael of Needham, Matthew B. Reisman & wife Mandy of Marshfield , Nicholas A. Reisman & wife Sandra of CO, Adam G. Belmonte & wife Evie of No. Andover, Alexander J. Brownell & wife Casey of Malden, Melina Garro-Duplisea, Andres Garro-Duplisea & Sulmy Garro-Duplisea, all of Somerville. Dear brother of the late Nan Scola, Frances Fiocca & Sarah Garro. He is also lovingly survived by 4 great grandchildren, Layla, Olivia, Benjamin & Lucy & many nieces & nephews.

On September 30th, 2022, we proudly purchased the Vazza “Beechwood” Funeral Home – DiPietro and Vazza, Inc. A name that has served families for 102 years. We feel blessed that with all of the interest, the Vazza Family chose us to carry on their century old business and family name. We will become Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals. We will continue to honor the Vazza name and continue our commitment the same way that we always have. We also look forward to having both Louis Vazza and Jessica Vazza Ferragamo alongside of us, as we come together as one.
Our reputation has always been our biggest asset. For many years people always wanted us to have a larger facility, now our facility is the largest funeral home in the area. We will be making many beautiful upgrades to allow our families to have the most elegant facility to honor their loved one.
Although this announcement is bittersweet, as we say goodbye to our home, we are forever grateful for all of you for placing your constant faith and trust in us to care for your loved one. We will continue to do what we are best known for.
