Armando Salvatore Cantino

Family & friends are invited to a visitation on Tuesday, November 4th, 2014 beginning at 9 a.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107), Revere, for Armando Salvatore Cantino, who died on Thursday, October 30th at the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital of Bedford, following a long illness, at 81 years.  A funeral mass will follow the visitation at the Immaculate Conception Church (corner of Beach St. & Winthrop Ave.), Revere, at 10:30 a.m., followed by entombment in the Woodlawn Community Mausoleum (Versailles Building), Everett.  Born in Messina, Sicily, Italy on November 28th, 1932, he was brought to America in 1936.  The family settled in Boston’s North End, where Armando attended schools & graduated from Boston Trade School in 1950.  He worked briefly at the former West End House in Boston as a Physical Instructor.  He entered the United States Army in February of 1953 & served until February of 1955 as a Corporal.  During his time in the service, he met an attractive Registered Nurse with the U.S. Army & they were wed in February of 1954.  Maria was a native of Santurce, Puerto Rico, where they would spend the majority of their lives until coming to Revere, MA in 2008.  The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past February.  Besides his beloved wife of 60 years, Maria J. (Lopez) Cantino, he is the devoted brother of Anthony P. Cantino of Revere & the late: Carmela J. Caputo & Philip Cantino.  He is the dear uncle of Angela J. Tabb & her husband Robert, Joseph A. Caputo, Jr. & his wife Mary-Lou, Camille M. Punch & her husband William A., & Joanne T. Caputo-Carfagna & her husband Alfred.  He is the cherished grand-uncle of Denise Tarro, Jeffrey Tarro & his wife Michele, Devon Punch & her husband Matthew Smith, & Anthony J. Caputo.  He is also lovingly survived by 3 great-grand-nieces, Chelsey, Gianna, & Ciara.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Patients’ Activities Fund at E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital, 200 Springs Rd., Bedford, MA 01730.

On September 30th, 2022, we proudly purchased the Vazza “Beechwood” Funeral Home – DiPietro and Vazza, Inc. A name that has served families for 102 years. We feel blessed that with all of the interest, the Vazza Family chose us to carry on their century old business and family name. We will become Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals. We will continue to honor the Vazza name and continue our commitment the same way that we always have. We also look forward to having both Louis Vazza and Jessica Vazza Ferragamo alongside of us, as we come together as one.
Our reputation has always been our biggest asset. For many years people always wanted us to have a larger facility, now our facility is the largest funeral home in the area. We will be making many beautiful upgrades to allow our families to have the most elegant facility to honor their loved one.
Although this announcement is bittersweet, as we say goodbye to our home, we are forever grateful for all of you for placing your constant faith and trust in us to care for your loved one. We will continue to do what we are best known for.
