Chester L. “Chet” Lander

Family & friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours on Sunday, May 6th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Vertuccio and Smith, Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Rt. 107) REVERE for Chester L. “Chet” Lander, who passed away on Tuesday, May 1st at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center of Boston following a long illness. He was 73 years old. A funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Monday, May 7th at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 670 Washington Ave., REVERE, followed by interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.

Chet was born, raised & educated in Salem, MA and was an alumnus of Salem High School, Class of 1963. At a very young age Chet possessed a strong work ethic and as a young man, he worked at J.M. Fields. Chet worked there in the shoe department while in high school. He would later become manager and loved helping people finding the right pair of shoes. He then became interested in computers and took several classes earning certifications on operating various types of software programs. He married Clara A. (Zeoli) and they settled in Revere and raised their family there. Chet & Clara shared 51 years of marriage together and would be celebrating their anniversary later this month. Chet worked at ADP for approximately 10 years, then for Digital, which later became Hewlett Packard for 15 years. He then took a position at Boston’s Children’s Hospital as an Operations Administrator, a position he held for nearly 21 years until he was forced to retire due to his failing health. Chet worked hard to provide for his family, which was always his first priority. He was a family man with humble needs. He loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren. Chet was an avid bowler & he was also a Bocce referee with the Chelsea Senior Center. He was a former Scout Master in the Boy Scouts with his sons and he was “Santa Claus” at the Pine Banks Park in Malden for several years.

He is the devoted husband of 51 years to Clara A. (Zeoli) Lander of Revere. Loving father of Cheri A. Lander of Revere, Shawn M. Lander & wife Teresa M. “Terrie” of Hampton, N.H. & Craig N. Lander of Revere. Adored Grampie & Papa to David A. Donnelly of Revere, Daniel W. Donnelly of South Carolina, Karissa K. Lander of Goffstown, N.H., Rebecca P. Lander of Manchester, N.H., Dominic J. Lander of Hampton, N.H., Dylan J. Lander & Nathan A. Lander, both of Revere and the late Stephen & Savannah Lander. Cherished brother of Sally Lander of Salem & the late Carroll “Skippy” Lander, Arlene Hope Lander & Donna M. Lander. He is also lovingly survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and his faithful canine companion Kayla. Interment will be held in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.

On September 30th, 2022, we proudly purchased the Vazza “Beechwood” Funeral Home – DiPietro and Vazza, Inc. A name that has served families for 102 years. We feel blessed that with all of the interest, the Vazza Family chose us to carry on their century old business and family name. We will become Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals. We will continue to honor the Vazza name and continue our commitment the same way that we always have. We also look forward to having both Louis Vazza and Jessica Vazza Ferragamo alongside of us, as we come together as one.
Our reputation has always been our biggest asset. For many years people always wanted us to have a larger facility, now our facility is the largest funeral home in the area. We will be making many beautiful upgrades to allow our families to have the most elegant facility to honor their loved one.
Although this announcement is bittersweet, as we say goodbye to our home, we are forever grateful for all of you for placing your constant faith and trust in us to care for your loved one. We will continue to do what we are best known for.
