Dana M. Poindexter

Family & friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday, June 20th, 2012 from 4 – 8 p.m., in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107), Revere, for Dana M. Poindexter, who died unexpectedly following a long illness on Sunday, June 17th (Father’s Day) at Leominster Hospital, Leominster, at 63 years.  A funeral will be conducted in the funeral home on Thursday, June 21st at 11 a.m., followed by interment in Puritan Lawn Memorial Cemetery, West Peabody.  Born & raised in Cambridge, he was an alumnus of Cambridge Rindge Latin High School, Class of 1966, & a 1968 alumnus of St. Petersburg, Florida Junior College.  Upon graduation, he remained in Florida for 4 years, working as a computer technician.  He returned to Massachusetts & worked here in the computer industry before starting his own canteen business within the Boston Theatre District.  Dana worked the business, until a long bout with Crohn’s disease & polycystic kidney disease, rendered him disabled.  His illness has been a long struggle, combating long hospital stays, surgeries, & therapies that have extended for almost 30 years.  Within that span of time, he was able to be most present, for his wife & two children, & his grandchildren.  He was an avid fisherman & gardener.  He is the beloved husband of 34 years to Doris J. (Oldford).  He & his family lived in Saugus, MA for over 15 years, & for the past 8 years have lived in Townsend, MA.  He is the Devoted father of: Renee J. Polonsky & her husband Eric of Burke, Virginia, & Brett N. Poindexter & his wife Bethany M. of Townsend, MA.  He is the Cherished Grandfather of: Alexis R. & Taylor E. Poindexter of Townsend, MA & Rebecca J. & Lillian J. Polonsky of Burke, VA.  He is also survived by his dear Mother, Emma A. (D’Abbraccio) Poindexter of Concord, formerly of Arlington, & his brother, Howard J. Poindexter of South Carolina, 2 nephews, 3 nieces, & many cousins.  He was the Son of the late John H. Poindexter.  Dana was a Past Exalted Ruler (PER) of the Saugus Lodge of Elks #642 & a long-time member, & a member of the William Sutton Masonic Lodge of Saugus.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to: Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) Foundation, 8330 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, MO 64114-2027, ATTN: “Team Justin.”

Our reputation has always been our biggest asset. For many years people always wanted us to have a larger facility, now our facility is the largest funeral home in the area. We will be making many beautiful upgrades to allow our families to have the most elegant facility to honor their loved one.
Although this announcement is bittersweet, as we say goodbye to our home, we are forever grateful for all of you for placing your constant faith and trust in us to care for your loved one. We will continue to do what we are best known for.
