Helen M. (Gannon) DeMattio

Family & friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours on Tuesday, June 25th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., in the Vertuccio & Smith, Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Rte. 107) REVERE, for Helen M. (Gannon) DeMattio, who passed on Saturday, June 22nd, unexpectedly at Boston’s Massachusetts General Hospital. Her funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Wednesday, June 26th at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 250 Revere St., REVERE at 11:00 a.m. and immediately followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.

Born & raised in Everett, Mrs. DeMattio was an alumna of the Class of 1946 at Everett High School. After marrying, John W. DeMattio, Sr. of Revere in 1953, the couple then moved to Revere. Helen was indeed a stay at home “Mom” and her hands full with the upbringing of three boys. She was dedicated and thoroughly enjoyed her role as a true “Family Woman”. Her dear husband, John, passed on November 26, 2012.

She is the cherished “Mom” to Edward J. DeMattio of Lynn, John W. DeMattio, Jr. of Meriden, Connecticut & Joseph S. DeMattio of Revere. She is the devoted grandmother to Marissa A. DeMattio of Revere, Kayla T. DeMattio of Methuen, Lauren E. DeMattio of Richmond, Rhode Island & Lindsey M. DeMattio of Ashaway, Rhode Island. She is also lovingly survived by her two former daughters-in-law, Lisa M. DeMattio of Methuen & Deborah J. DeMattio of Plainfield, Connecticut & many nieces, nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews. She was also the dear sister of the late, Rita Ryan, James & Joseph Gannon, Dorothy D’Ambrosio, Alice Bellefonte & Mary Dean.

Visiting Hours

Tuesday, June 25th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass

Wednesday, June 26th at 11:00 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Revere

Interment

Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.

On September 30th, 2022, we proudly purchased the Vazza “Beechwood” Funeral Home – DiPietro and Vazza, Inc. A name that has served families for 102 years. We feel blessed that with all of the interest, the Vazza Family chose us to carry on their century old business and family name. We will become Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals. We will continue to honor the Vazza name and continue our commitment the same way that we always have. We also look forward to having both Louis Vazza and Jessica Vazza Ferragamo alongside of us, as we come together as one.
Our reputation has always been our biggest asset. For many years people always wanted us to have a larger facility, now our facility is the largest funeral home in the area. We will be making many beautiful upgrades to allow our families to have the most elegant facility to honor their loved one.
Although this announcement is bittersweet, as we say goodbye to our home, we are forever grateful for all of you for placing your constant faith and trust in us to care for your loved one. We will continue to do what we are best known for.
