James J. “Buddy” Phillips

Family & friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service to be conducted at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett on Tuesday, July 10th at 1:30 p.m. Please gather inside the front gate at Woodlawn Cemetery & then we will proceed to the gravesite.

Born & raised in Revere, “Buddy” was an alumnus of the Class of 1942, Revere High School. He joined the U.S. Navy & served as a Seaman 1st Class from January 30th, 1943 thru January 31, 1946. Among his commendations from the U.S. Navy, he was awarded one Silver Star, a most prestigious accomplishment. For most of his working career, he worked with the Department of Public Works in Revere as a Class A Painter. He took a fairly early retirement and enjoyed many years with his wife & family. He was most proud of his memberships in Fraternal Organizations, especially his affiliation & his active support to the Beachmont V.F.W. Post 6712. He was also a member of the Beachmont Yacht Club. “Buddy ” lived almost all his life in Beachmont Revere and Revere, i.e., off Broadway.

He was the beloved husband of the late, Anna May (Anderson) Phillips, who passed May 15, 2008. He is the devoted father to Terese Phillips of Bedford & the late Karen Phillips & the late Eric J. Phillips. He is the cherished grandfather to Candice J. Yontz of Colorado, Brianna J. & Kayla A. Phillips, both of Wilton, N.H. He is the dear brother of Robert Phillips & his wife, Barbara of Warwick, R.I. & the late, Lorraine Wheelock & her late husband Paul of Orient Heights, East Boston.

Tuesday, July 10th at 1:30 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett
(Please meet at the main gate by 1:15 p.m.)

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the New England Home & Center for Veterans, P.O. Box 845257, Boston, MA 02284-5257.

On September 30th, 2022, we proudly purchased the Vazza “Beechwood” Funeral Home – DiPietro and Vazza, Inc. A name that has served families for 102 years. We feel blessed that with all of the interest, the Vazza Family chose us to carry on their century old business and family name. We will become Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals. We will continue to honor the Vazza name and continue our commitment the same way that we always have. We also look forward to having both Louis Vazza and Jessica Vazza Ferragamo alongside of us, as we come together as one.
Our reputation has always been our biggest asset. For many years people always wanted us to have a larger facility, now our facility is the largest funeral home in the area. We will be making many beautiful upgrades to allow our families to have the most elegant facility to honor their loved one.
Although this announcement is bittersweet, as we say goodbye to our home, we are forever grateful for all of you for placing your constant faith and trust in us to care for your loved one. We will continue to do what we are best known for.
