Jennifer Dek-Vay Biv
Family & friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, May 15th from 12:00 p.m. (Noon) to 1:15 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for , 773 Broadway (Route 107) Revere for Jennifer Dek-Vay Biv, who died following a lengthy illness on Monday, May 11th at her Lynn residence. Her funeral service will follow the visitation on Friday, May 15th at 1:30 p.m. in the First Congregational Church, 230 Beach St., Revere.
Born in the Phon, province of Cambodia, she came here to the USA in 1984, a victim of the country’s genocide. Jennifer made her home with her most devoted sister, Deborah K. Biv. They had lived in Revere for about 4 years, until moving to Lynn in 1985. The girls had survived the Cambodian genocide of the late 1970s, suffered untold and horrific experiences and came here, became educated, and were alumnae of the Class of 1990, University of Massachusetts, with a B.A. & Master’s degree in education. Jennifer taught for 24 years, at the Alexander Hamilton School of Brighton, teaching reading, English, French and Cambodian. She was beloved and respected not only by her fellow teachers, but by her many, many students. They had been active members of the First Congregational Church of Revere and were treasured and respected by all members and Pastor Nicholas G. Granitsas. She was also the daughter of the late Leang Hout Biv and Nay Kol, who perished during the genocide. Interment is private.
