John J. Tankevich, Jr.

Family & friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours on Tuesday, December 13th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith, Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Rte. 107), REVERE for John J. Tankevich, Jr. who died following a long illness at his Saugus residence on Wednesday, December 7th. His funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Wednesday, December 14th at 9:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass in the Church of the Incarnation of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at 10:00 a.m.

Mr. Tankevich was born, raised & educated in South Peabody, Ma. He attended Peabody schools & was a 1956 alumnus of Peabody High School. He entered the Air Force in September of 1956 & served until September of 1960. He fulfilled his military obligation with the Air Force Reserves in September of 1962, retiring with the rank of Master Sgt. After receiving his degree from Northeastern University, in advanced computer science, he married married Patricia A. (Sweeney) of Revere and the couple settled in Everett for five & half years before moving to Saugus in 1976. He entered the work force force via the Commonwealth of Massachusetts within the Division of Finance at the State House in Boston. He held that position from 1966 thru retirement in 2004. John was a long-time member of the Elks Lodge #2071 of Billerica.

He is the beloved husband of 46 years to Patricia A. (Sweeney) Tankevich. He is the devoted Father of Tracie A. Tankevich & her companion, Richard A. Heald of Newfield, Maine, Tricia L. DiDomenico & her husband, State Senator Sal DiDomenico of Everett, and Jaclyn M. McPherson & her husband, Dustin S. of Derry, NH. He is the cherished grandfather of Matthew S. & Sal J.DiDomenico & Jonathan P.& Jaxson C. McPherson. He is the dear brother of Richard L. Tankevich of Kalispell, Montana (Mt) & the late Ronald & Florence Tankevich. He is the outstanding uncle to David Roseman & his wife, Julie of White Plains, NY, Katherine R. McVay of Brooklyn, NY., Cara A. Sweeney of
South Boston, Samantha R. McVay of Philadelphia,Pa., Jocelyn & Jared Roseman of White Plains , NY & many other nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Entombment will be held privately at Woodlawn Community Mausoleum,Everett.

Entombment

Will be held at a later date

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be to the Mass. General Hospital Cancer Research Foundation at the Yawkey Bldg., 32 Fruit St., Boston, MA 02114.

We feel blessed that with all of the interest, the Vazza Family chose us to carry on their century old business and family name. We will become Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals. We will continue to honor the Vazza name and continue our commitment the same way that we always have. We also look forward to having both Louis Vazza and Jessica Vazza Ferragamo alongside of us, as we come together as one.
Our reputation has always been our biggest asset. For many years people always wanted us to have a larger facility, now our facility is the largest funeral home in the area. We will be making many beautiful upgrades to allow our families to have the most elegant facility to honor their loved one.
Although this announcement is bittersweet, as we say goodbye to our home, we are forever grateful for all of you for placing your constant faith and trust in us to care for your loved one. We will continue to do what we are best known for.
