Family & friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, January 29th, 2013 from 4 – 8 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107), Revere, for John Philip Hardy, who died on Sunday, January 27th at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, following a long illness, at 78 years.  His funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Wednesday, January 30th at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in the Immaculate Conception Church (corner of Beach St. & Winthrop Ave.), Revere, at 10:30 a.m.  Born in Boston, he lived his early years in South Boston & Dorchester. He was a 1951 alumnus of Boston English High School.  He entered the service immediately upon graduation from High School in June of 1951 & served four years with the United States Air Force, during the Korean Conflict.  For over 25 years, he worked for Hanscom Air Force Base within the engineering department.  As an engineer’s aide, he worked many of the most involved projects that were assigned to the Air Force, regarding the construction of aircraft & extraordinary equipment.  He also attended Fisher Junior College.  He is a member of the National Society of the Disabled American Veterans.  For over 15 years, John owned & operated,  “Jack’s Special Delivery Service” in the Metro & North Shore area.  He is the beloved husband of 52 years to: Elaine M. (D’Alessandro).  He is the devoted Father of, Susan M. Westhaver & her husband, Edward P. of Stoneham, Stephen M. Hardy & his wife, Andala of Columbus, Ohio & the late, Jean Hardy.  He is also the cherished Grandfather of, Daniel E. & Matthew J. Westhaver of Stoneham, Morgan R., Jack L. & Liam P. Hardy all of Columbus, OH.  He is also lovingly survived by, Kerry Overlan of Melrose, Lawrence Overlan of Canton, Kevin Overlan of North Reading & the late, Sheila Overlan.  Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.

We will continue to honor the Vazza name and continue our commitment the same way that we always have. We also look forward to having both Louis Vazza and Jessica Vazza Ferragamo alongside of us, as we come together as one.
Our reputation has always been our biggest asset. For many years people always wanted us to have a larger facility, now our facility is the largest funeral home in the area. We will be making many beautiful upgrades to allow our families to have the most elegant facility to honor their loved one.
Although this announcement is bittersweet, as we say goodbye to our home, we are forever grateful for all of you for placing your constant faith and trust in us to care for your loved one. We will continue to do what we are best known for.
